Description
湖南为客动经春，燕子衔泥两度新。旧入故园尝识主，如今社日远看人。可怜处处巢居室，何异飘飘托此身。暂语船樯还起去，穿花贴水益沾巾。杜甫于大历三年（768）出峡，先是漂泊湖北，后转徙湖南，大历四年正月由岳州（治今湖南岳阳）到潭州（治今湖南长沙）。写此诗时，已是第二年的春天了，诗人仍留滞潭州，以舟为家。所以诗一开始就点明“湖南为客动经春”，接着又以燕子衔泥筑巢来形象地描绘春天的景象，引出所咏的对象——燕子。
