锦城丝管日纷纷，半入江风半入云。此曲只应天上有，人间能得几回闻。这首绝句，字面上明白如话，但对它的主旨，历来注家颇多异议。有人认为它只是赞美乐曲，并无弦外之音；而明杨慎《升庵诗话》却说：“花卿在蜀颇僭用天子礼乐，子美作此讥之，而意在言外，最得诗人之旨。”清沈德潜《说诗晬语》也说：“诗贵牵意，有言在此而意在彼者，杜少陵刺花敬定之僭窃，则想新曲于天上。”杨、沈之说是较为可取的。
