王郎酒酣拔剑斫地歌莫哀！我能拔尔抑塞磊落之奇才。豫章翻风白日动，鲸鱼跋浪沧溟开。且脱佩剑休徘徊。西得诸侯棹锦水，欲向何门趿珠履？仲宣楼头春色深，青眼高歌望吾子。眼中之人吾老矣！《短歌行》是乐府旧题，称“短歌”是指歌声短促，这里可能指音调的急促。王郎是年轻人，称“郎”，名不详。司直是纠劾的官。代宗大历三年（768）春天，杜甫一家从夔州（治今重庆奉节）出三峡，到达江陵（今湖北荆州）。这诗当是这年春末在江陵所作。
