Now, as a believer, however, How much attention are you paying to the state of the world? Are you noticing the subtle shifts in society? More and more things which are in opposition to God's word are becoming socially accepted. They are being normalized. I wonder if you're paying attention to that. How much attention are you paying to the actions of people in general? Does it appear to you that more and more people are becoming loving,
They are becoming peaceful. They are becoming more accepting and forgiving. Or perhaps you notice the opposite. As a believer, are you paying attention to the significant increase in self-proclaimed apostles and prophets who are telling people to do all kinds of weird things, things that aren't biblical, but yet many are blindly following them? Many are blindly following people who claim to hear from God every day. But let me say that God is not cheap. He is not common, as though he is a man you can just hear at all hours. So pay attention to who you listen to. As a believer, are you paying attention to how the devil has so subtly infiltrated entertainment?

Movies referencing occults, darkness, and evil are now so common and so accepted. Music referencing fornication, adultery, and all kinds of immorality is now so common and widely accepted. Books, talk shows, even kids' programs are now blurring the lines between the truth and a new modern way of living, or rather, should I say, a new modern ungodly way of living. What are you paying attention to? Now, it's been said that one of the most difficult things to teach school-aged children and teenagers is simply to pay attention. Ask any elementary, middle, or high school teacher and they will likely tell you that one of the toughest elements of education is found in the attempt to try and keep the minds of the students attentive.
Now, in our modern world, filled with televisions, computers, cell phones, and other media devices, it is difficult to keep the attention of students for 10 minutes, much less the 45 to 50 minutes allotted for each class. And what is most disturbing about the lack of focus in our children is the consequences that they will encounter for not paying attention. Now, whether you're a child or an adult, there are consequences to not paying attention. There are immediate consequences when people do not stay alert. And equally, there are long-term consequences for a lack of attention. We all have been in one of those situations in a gym class when the class is playing a game and all of a sudden someone who is not paying attention is blindsided right in the face with the ball.
That's an example of an immediate consequence of not staying focused on what is going on around you. Now, there is also an immediate consequence that will happen to perhaps millions of people in the last days and at the return of Jesus Christ. Luke describes in his gospel the response of Jesus to his disciples concerning the signs and the times of the end. Jesus warned of a time when many would come in his name and draw men away from the gospel. He declared there will be wars and disorder around the world, but stated we should not be afraid because the end would not come immediately. He disclosed that nations will stand against each other and that natural disasters, disease and hunger will increase throughout the world.
He cautioned us of persecution, imprisonment and the betrayal of our own families, even to the death for some. Furthermore, he referred to the destruction of Jerusalem and finally to the second coming of the Son of Man. But with all the information Luke describes, how does this affect the way we should be living in the last days? The answer lies specifically in the words of Jesus Christ.
