The kicker? The model selector still shows 4.0, which made users feel like they were being gaslit. It’s now confirmed there’s a “safety routing” system at play, and the whole thing has left a subset of die-hard 4.0 fans fuming, while the other 699 million ChatGPT users probably haven’t even noticed. It’s a small drama, but one that neatly sums up OpenAI’s slightly slippery comms style. Then it was onto the big layoff news: Accenture cutting 11,000 jobs in the name of “AI restructuring.” On the face of it, that’s a lot of livelihoods gone, but in context it’s 0.14% of their enormous workforce, and possibly more about trimming fat than AI’s march. Apple also gets a mention, dusting off Siri with plans for a large language model refresh, reportedly arriving next year under the code name Veritas. Classic Apple: late to the party, but with the potential to swoop in and polish the rough edges once the rest have done the awkward experimenting.
