People have been testing it with the classic AI image generation challenges—you know, the wine glass filled to the brim and clocks showing specific times—and it's smashed them. Previously, every model would default to a half-full wine glass or set clocks to 10 past 10, but Imagen 3 seems to have finally cracked it. Whether that's been hard-coded in because everyone tests for it, we'll find out soon enough. There's the usual caveat that early access has produced some problematic deepfakes, but those guardrails will be tightened up before full release. The more interesting story, though, is what Ethan Mollick's been pointing out about AI overwhelming our governmental systems. There are now tools like Objector.ai that'll draft planning objections for £45, and I built something similar for contesting parking tickets on a livestream. The problem is our systems were built assuming quality writing takes time and effort, so it acts as a natural filter. Now we can flood councils and authorities with AI-generated submissions at scale, and these already-slow systems are going to grind to an absolute halt. It's one of those consequences of AI getting good that we hadn't really planned for—and it's happening right now.
