This term is used too often, but the experience genuinely changed my outlook on sport and life. In the video and below I tell you why.I have to admit, I didn't even know exactly where the Maldives was; all I knew was: a) Yes, I wanted to run there; B) It was a place on the front of holiday websites with white sands and blue seas. When I got there, a whole new way of life, a whole new culture, and a whole new level of frienliness presented themselves. From arriving to departing, the welcome feeling was unreal. I met with the President, the First Lady, and later the Sports Minister and Minister for Tourism. The plans for sport in the Maldives were a dream come true for me, and I was honored to be able to speak publicly about my experiences racing and training around the world and speak to the people in politics who make the decisions on where to allocate spending to best serve the people.Lots has happened since then, but the Maldives works fast. It was only 7 years before I was there that running became a "thing". When their citizens returned from Australia, British or American universities and had found running while they were overseas, - then brought it home.It wasn't easy to go for a run at first, especially for women, but they prevailed, and the fact that the First Lady runs and actively takes part in sport has expedited that process and, in turn, changed the way young girls look at sport and exercise. Participation has exponentially increased; it's a unique and very special example of how good we can be and how quickly we can change old thinking. #motivation #maldives #ibrahimmohamedsolih #faznaahmed #sport #childreninsport #sports
