In 2024, the City of Seoul announced that it would spend $325 million over the next five years to “create a city where no-one is lonely”. The initiative proposed a series of interventions ranging from a 24/7 counselling helpline to more green spaces and nutritional meal plans. But is there a role for government intervention to tackle this issue?
