Sunday Inspiration #1: Phillis Wheatley (Why didn't I know this?)
11 Feb 2024
Are you familiar with Phillis Wheatley, the first African American woman to have a published book of poetry, a celebrity of her day and in the literary circles of George Washington, Ben Franklin, and other Revolutionary Era juggernauts? Did you know this was made remarkable because she was enslaved when she gained this distinction? If not, it's not surprising...recent scholarship has completely changed what we understand about Phillis Wheatley. In this episode I look at the grandmother of African American, Phillis Wheatley. With this new series I've also put together a new resource to share additional information with you - some curated links and strategies for easy information into what you're already teaching.
