San Francisco banned facial recognition technology recently and The Art Pros Podcast about what this might mean for our future. The technology already partly exists in some of our favorite apps, but there is a lot more to it that is being studied by experts. Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning is being used for Facial Recognition to optimize functionality but currently, the technology is still being researched to determine the accuracy of results. They call this new A.I. the Generative Adversarial Network, or GAN, which is capable of unsupervised learning to generate new data with a 'training set,' i.e. a set of photographs, i.e. hot selfies of YOU. We're a bit concerned about this... Will the A.I. notice my new haircut? Does this A.I. know that I've gained 10 pounds? Can A.I. recognize John Cena? Here's an article about how A.I. has trouble recognizing different Asian faces and other POC's: https://www.wired.com/story/how-coders-are-fighting-bias-in-facial-recognition-software/
