Hello listeners, welcome to episode five hundred of the Attacking Scrum podcast. Uh no time to look back though, uh 'cause there's lots of rugby been going on. Um I tell you what, this week actually has been one of those weeks that if last week was a nice return to form and I really enjoyed doing the pod, this week has been one of those weeks where This is the reason why I've stopped doing it. It's been really busy at work, loads going on. Uh I'm broken sleep and then um Yeah, going to record this tonight while the World Cup semi final's on. It's got another call up, coming back for another one, so Um we're gonna feed in some I fed in uh all the kind of the big stories of the week to ChatGPT and asked it to throw me the questions out um as and when we go through it. So uh let's see what that does for us this week. Seemed to work last week. So what we got to talk about? We've got uh the result in Argentina, which is the big one. We'll have a look at that and see where Wales really stand after two games of the autumn nations Autumn Nations? The autumn fucking what's it whatever it's called? The Nations Championship. And yeah, well I think that's probably enough. We'll see we'll see how we go. But um question number one then. Um here we go. Right. Wales have lost in Argentina. And the reaction has been pretty mixed. Some people see another defeat, others see genuine progress. Where do you sit? Are whales actually moving forward or just lowering the bar because of where they came from? Right then. Uh no look, I said last week that The performance was really important and it was less about whether they got the result or not, but more whether they looked like getting a win. Now for twenty eight minutes I thought Wales looked pretty decent and thereafter they lost the game and never really competed within it. So I think it was I think it was a disappointing performance all in all.
Um I don't think they've necessar well, I I suppose you do move backwards, but it's it's not It's not a complete disaster. I think I I don't kind of agree with the the reviews out there and some of the some of the the tone around it being that this is a absolute disaster. But I do think it's disappointing. Um you know, I suppose the the travel and turnaround and stuff like that could play a bit of a a role in it. Um but I don't think they're there to make excuses. I think they just weren't at the races. And there are some big concerns in there, um, the uh recurring theme from the week before and the defence is the is the main one in there. The number of missed tackles, I think it was another um another figure in the thirties and you just can't do that in international rugby.
So yeah, when you're when you're failing to to shut the opposition down, um I think that's the that's that's the big concern and that's something that's gonna have to change. As I said last week, with a new defence coach in, I think it can take time to bed in. It's not always Um it's not always clear to the untrained eye, and mine is about as untrained as it gets, that you know, what a defence coach is trying to do, systems wise, it might look very similar to what
