Authors' Alcove: The Writing Corner

Writing Historical Fiction with Self-Publishing Coach and Author Joyana Peters: Setting, Research, and Self-Publishing

27 Sep 2023

Description

Award-winning historical fiction writer and self-publishing coach Joyana Peters shares her first two novels, A Girl from Saint Petersburg and A Girl in the Triangle. Developing Setting in Historical Fiction We talked about crucial elements like setting and how, despite being a trilogy following the same person, she has chosen three different locations and three different time periods. Her first was in St. Petersburg in Russia, four years after the Bloody Sunday Massacre. The second, though she wrote first, is in New York during the Triangle Fires. Her third trilogy is set ten years in yet a new setting. How to Research Historical Fiction We also discussed the importance of research, and she shared how she did a lot of research for each book. Her favorite way to research is field trips, among other research methods. How to Self-Publish Your Novel Being a self-publishing coach, she was very informative about how to self-publish. You may also reach out to her on her website, JoyanaPeters.com, where you can seek her service as an author coach, explore her shop, or buy her books.
