Lisa (Mommy/Host) 0:01
Every team, every topic, everywhere. This is Believe.
Carl Mandrioli 0:07
Which one of these latest, greatest backpacks is the best one for you? We're talking packs for ultra lighters, through hikers, and ultra luxurious weekend warriors. And we'll tell you which ones we like the best and the ones that just don't cut it.
Carl Mandrioli 0:29
Welcome to the Backpack Glisters Podcast brought to you by Enlighten Equipment. They don't make backpacks, but they make the best ultralight gear that goes in your pack. Check them out at EnlightenEquipment.com. With me today is a through hiker, a gear tester, a YouTuber, a backpacking expert. Michael from a channel formerly known as I Suck It Hiking. How's it going today, sir?
Michael 0:51
Fantastic. How are you calling?
Carl Mandrioli 0:53
Good man. It's honor to have you on the show. Uh okay, so you just recently changed your channel name. What what's the story with that?
Michael 1:00
Well, you know, I did the eye sucket hiking for years, but now that I've through hiked the AT and I've through hiked the Colorado Trail and I've done so many other little trails in between, I don't really think that the the channel name applies anymore.
Carl Mandrioli 1:13
Okay, oh you're so you're awesome at hiking now, you're saying?
Michael 1:16
I I think I've got it down. Um however, um I've I'm expanding my my niche. You know, uh YouTube's all about niches and um I don't want to be known as just the hiking type of channel. I'm doing all types of outdoor adventures. I mean, I've fallen in so in love with the outdoors after finishing the AT and spending five months, you know, basically outside every single day that I want to. see what other type of adventures are out there. So I am basically opening up my channel and we're calling it open air problems. Right. And so the the the the new thing is basically we're going to be uh taking on different adventures, whether it be I lived on a raft for three days or, you know, in the middle of the water, a 10 by 10 raft, you know, with a tent, um, or uh testing my fear of heights, which is one of my latest videos.
Michael 2:01
Yeah.
Carl Mandrioli 2:06
Realize. So you're coming up with like creative ideas and then making a story about it or a video about it. Man, had I realized that I I would have I got some suggestions. I'm like I always got some weird stuff, so Like are you are you gonna be looking for like any Florida swamp monsters, Bigfoot, anything that like that?
Michael 2:24
There there are some plans in place. I just did an e-bike adventure where I took the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf Ocean and I rode uh from the Atlantic to the Gulf and I carried and brought the oceans together in a bucket. So uh that video is already out there. So yeah, just some unique, fun ideas. Um sometimes they make sense, sometimes they don't make sense. Like, you know, I went to uh Colorado and uh uh and and I tested my fear of heights. There's a place called uh uh the gorge there it's uh uh it that has the highest uh zip line in North America um but not only that you know so there's there's four different things that it has a glass bottom gondola it has a suspension bridge that you can walk over the highest suspension bridge in North America that's a walkover bridge and I did the fourth thing which you'll have to watch the video to actually
Michael 2:54
Okay. Um
Michael 3:14
Which is the craziest thing that I've ever done. So as far as testing my fear of heights. So if you want to see me scream like that video.
Carl Mandrioli 3:24
Did it did the leave no trace police? Are they coming after you for the ocean thing?
Michael 3:28
No. Actually, no, so I mean the the um the the raft is a ten by ten floating dock. So essentially essentially I set up a tent on it. Um I bring it out with But
Carl Mandrioli 3:40
you yeah, but you put one bucket from one from the Atlantic into the Gulf and so you're putting all these like, I don't know, plankton or whatever is in the ocean and then like intermixing them, you could single handedly wreck the ocean, right? I
Michael 3:52
I I think it's gonna be okay. I I
Carl Mandrioli 3:54
I
Michael 3:55
yeah. And you know naturally they do meet together at the bottom of Florida.
Carl Mandrioli 4:00
I'm not from Florida, but yeah. My general geographical knowledge, yeah, I I'm just giving you a hard time. Anytime there's any sort of like issue with Leave No Trace, the please come out.
