04 Jan 2024
Today is a REWIND Episode where I speak with Lacey Filipich, the Founder of Money School which helps people become financially independent and raise financially capable kids. Money School is also the title of her award-winning book which was the winner of the best book 2022 at the Money Awareness and Inclusion Awards. Lacey graduated as valedictorian from the University of Queensland in Australia with an Honours degree in Chemical Engineering She is the winner of a 2019 Business News "40 under 40" Award in Australia. In this episode Lacey tells us how she became financially independent at age 31 and is now able to live a life pursuing her passions. Lacey learned from her mum what to do, and from her dad what NOT to do! Her mum taught her that it's not how much you make, it's how much you keep - and Lacey has always saved 50% of what she's earned. Lacey tells us that in its simplest terms, financial literacy comes down to: (i) save; (ii) buy assets that generate an income; and (iii) avoid bad debt. Resources: Lacey encourages all parents of girls to take the Harvard Implicit Associations Test, which uncovers unconscious biases: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html Lacey's FREE course Debt101 to help you get out of debt https://courses.moneyschool.org.au/page/2AdMj Hear Lacey's story on her TED Talk https://www.ted.com/talks/lacey_filipich_why_you_should_think_about_financial_independence_and_mini_retirements
