It's going to be tough for Mullen to convince some senators that he's the right person for the job because of his own behavior in the Senate. Mullen is perhaps most famous for trying to start a fight with a witness in the middle of a committee hearing. A teamster, no less. He had to be stopped by Bernie Sanders. Trump's pick to head an agency plagued by allegations of intimidation and excessive force is a guy who wanted to fight a witness and had to be chastised and stood down by Bernie Sanders during a committee hearing.

I'm sure that'll go over well and do wonders to alleviate concerns that DHS is getting the right leadership. While many are trying to make a direct connection between Nome's less than stellar performance during recent hearings and her firing, it's important to remember that her and her department have had an almost never-ending stream of scandals. The ad campaign, the plane thing, the violence of ICE, the stonewalling, the less than accurate portrayal of events, and so on, all probably added up, and the hearings, along with pointing the finger at Trump over the ad campaign, was probably the straw that broke the camel's back. Most observers knew this was coming when Tom Homan had to be brought in to try to defuse the mess created by ICE in Minnesota.

Perhaps Noam's most enduring scandal was her admission that she took a puppy named Cricket to a gravel pit and shot her because Noam believed she was untrainable. She consistently defended the action because of how ill-behaved she said the puppy was. It's worth noting Trump took Noam's DHS leadership position to the gravel pit after just 13 months and nine days. Cricket was 14 months old. Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
