Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Well, howdy there, internet people. It's Belle again, and welcome to The Roads with Belle. Today is August 28th, and we're going down the roads to your questions from Patreon or email or the comments. There's been a lot of news lately moving quickly, so some of our question pile is overfilling. Okay, so starting us off. Dear Bell, it truly is mind-boggling why Republicans hate Democrats so much.
I'm a progressive who wants the same nice things that they have in other countries, like free health care, or affordable at least, a living wage, and end food insecurity. Democrats are at their lowest approval rating in history.
Chapter 2: What questions are being addressed in this episode?
I am too far to the left to be considered a liberal. And honestly, I'm offended when the Republicans lump us progressives with them. Is there any chance of changing a Republican's mind and realize that we are not the enemy? Thank you. Well, it's important to remember that stats don't always reflect what you think they do in politics.
I mean, it's true all the time, but especially true in a political system built on a binary. I'd be willing to guess that if this audience was asked, do you approve of the job the Democrats are doing? Most would say no. That doesn't mean y'all support Trump. It means you don't think the Democrats are fighting hard enough or are successful enough. As far as the other question, yes.
As soon as they experience the brunt of conservative policies, there's a chance they'll realize that progressives aren't their enemy. At least some of them. Next question. Aloha, Belle. Big fan of you and the red-bearded gremlin. I have noticed lately that my subscribed channels all have ads for PragerU and other right-wing nutjob sites.
Is this a focused effort of the right wing to influence left-leaning consumers? It is over the top how saturated the ad space is with this crap.
Chapter 3: Why do Republicans and Democrats seem to be at odds?
So, YouTube ads generally target demographics, not channels specifically. Something in your viewing habits has led them to believe you're reachable. Because of the stuff I search for research, the ads I get are insane. Next question.
Long time watcher, I would like to get your take on the whistleblower report on the DOGE members copying what amounts to the entire country's personal and verified information into the cloud. You reported on their efforts to get access to the data. Well, now we are here. An additional topic to discuss with this is how DOGE has been at the ATF for over a month.
where there has been an effort to digitize 4473 documents. Those are the federal firearms background checks. This is the exact combination of data that the 2A crowd has been warning us of for the last 20 years. Yet the gun crowd either does not know or is very quiet. When it comes to the gun crowd, a lot of their concerns are based on vibes rather than realities.
Many view Trump as above suspicion, which is really funny given his actual record and statements on gun control. They don't realize that information will be available to the next administration, but they also don't seem to realize that they built the registration they feared themselves via social media posts and donations to nonprofit groups. Next.
My cousin has been seriously looking at ICE recruitment materials. He is a younger, right-leaning, libertarian guy, has ROTC experience, some college, criminal justice, but few job prospects, and a lot of college debt. He did not finish.
I think he's looking at this situation, or looking at his situation, and sees ICE as the fast track to high pay and a career and a way out of his current situation. He has been going to Reddit forums, and a lot of people on there are telling him it's a good idea, really juicing him up. My moral center tells me this is something my family should not be a part of.
I have shown him some videos of what ICE is doing, and he seems to have hardened his heart to the ethical implications. My family is good at that. So, I have been trying to look into reasons it might be against his rational self-interest to join ICE. Why maybe it is not the career move he thinks it is. Any ideas?
So, you're looking for something that doesn't appeal to moral or ethical considerations and looking only at self-interest. Think of the career aspect. It isn't one. Either Trump's moves aren't successful, in which case they'll be cut as waste in a few years, or they are successful and they won't be needed anymore.
There were a whole bunch of questions pertaining to Trump's health and whether a Vance presidency would be better. As far as commenting on his health, I'm a medical professional. I don't think it's appropriate for me to comment on that. A Vance presidency would likely be better economically. He doesn't seem married to all of the failed ancient ideas Trump is.
