I'm particularly thinking of the cases between states and the president over troop deployments. If it's inevitable that certain cases go that far, Why doesn't the Supreme Court hear them in the first place? I realize they're busy, but why go through the bother and expense of multiple tiers of lower courts before getting to the top? If it'll just end up there anyway. Thanks again. Still bemused European Because of the way our system is set up, there are certain steps it has to go through first. Otherwise, everybody would just try to take every case to the Supreme Court. At its heart, the Supreme Court primarily handles constitutional issues and some federal law issues.

There are some types of cases where the Supreme Court has original jurisdiction and it can start there. But those are normally cases between two states. Our legal system is a maze of various jurisdictions and different courts. That is downright baffling. Next. Why didn't you talk about Columbus? We're on different sides of the political divide, but you seem to love the United States. How can you just ignore somebody who discovered this country? We have to find a united history to unite. Well Columbus never set foot in what became the United States. He did not discover this country.
