What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
You are listening to the Becoming the Wealthy You podcast with Jermaine Foley.
If you're a woman who makes good money in your career or business, but you're not building wealth like you want to, then you're in the right place. In this podcast, you'll learn how to stop overspending, break free from the cycle of debt, save lots of cash, and become the wealthy woman you were born to be. Let's dive in. Hello, everyone. Welcome back to the podcast. Today, I have the pleasure of sharing an interview I did with Shauna Game from the Everyone's Talking Money podcast. And we talked all about her brand new book titled Unraveling Your Relationship with Money. You all, this conversation is is so rich because we discuss topics and ideas that go way beyond the traditional personal finance topics that you'll hear on most financial podcasts, right?
We talk about topics like why your relationship with money is so messed up. We talk about money trauma and money shame and how to get rid of both of them. We also talk about how to create your own money hero story, right? We all have our own money stories, but Shauna helps us to create our own money hero story. And so I'm so excited for you all to just really dive in to this episode. This one is a little longer because it's an interview. So a pro tip is to speed it up a bit, listen to it on 1.25 speed or even 1.5 speed so that you can get all of this goodness and and really hear what Shauna has to say to you all. Because I'm telling you, in our conversation, we just scratched the surface of all of these topics that I just mentioned.
And we go much deeper and cover other ideas and concepts as well. And so because we just scratched the surface, I highly encourage you to go and grab Shauna's new book, Again, it's called Unraveling Your Relationship with Money. You can actually grab it by going to the show notes and clicking on the link there and ordering yourself a copy, or you can pick up the book wherever books are sold. All right, let's go ahead and jump into the interview. Shawna, I am so excited to have you here today. Your book, Unraveling Your Relationship with Money, is such a powerful read. I know my audience is going to love it, and I just appreciate you for saying yes to this conversation.
Oh, it is such a pleasure to be here.
I'm so excited. Me too. So before we dive in, how about you go ahead and just introduce yourself to my audience just in case they don't know you, tell them all about who you are and why you love this work so much.
Wow. Yeah. So I joke that I have been an entrepreneur since I came out of the shoot, so to speak. I love creative ideas. And I started my first business in college, which was one of the first national student film festivals and ran that for about five years. ended up selling it. And then I was like, what do I do with all these weird skills that I have? Got an MBA and my father had been working in the financial industry for his whole career. And he was like, hey, how about you come join my company because I'm kind of bored. So I thought, why not? And it was really the beautiful foundation to the work I do today because I got to work with people who had a ton of money. and people who are just starting out.
And what I saw was that we're all so similar. We all make versions of the same quote unquote mistakes. We're just dealing with different denominations, but we all get hung up on the same things. And that really led to this curiosity for me to explore this kind of trauma relationship with money piece, this kind of weird thing that isn't really talked about. I'm also a certified financial planner and a certified trauma of money expert. I've taught financial literacy for years and years. And I started my podcast originally called Millennial Money in 2015. And we since changed the name to Everyone's Talking Money. And it's just this weird thing that took off that I've been doing for 10 years that has kind of led me to this moment.
And what I feel is a really impactful message, especially for women who understand emotions, but don't always understand how they play out when we're dealing with money.
