This is an iHeart podcast. Guaranteed human. Run a business and not thinking about podcasting? Think again. More Americans listen to podcasts than add supported streaming music from Spotify and Pandora. And as the number one podcaster, iHeart's twice as large as the next two combined. Hey, Portlandia fans.
Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen here.
The dream of the 90s is alive in podcast form.
We're launching Podlandia AO Rewatch, our brand new podcast where we revisit every episode of Portlandia together, breaking down sketches, going deep on our iconic characters, and pulling back the curtain on how it all got made.
And we'll also be joined by the people who helped bring it all to life. Guest stars, collaborators, and friends, including director Jonathan Kreisel, the mayor himself, Kyle MacLachlan, legendary musician Amy Mann, and many more.
Kyle is going for it here. You fully improvised, not just words, but a song, a melody.
Well, I thought you were all going to write a song.
I remember you thinking that. Listen to Podlandia, AO Rewatch on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
What's up, fam? I'm sports journalist Ari Chambers. Hey, what's up, y'all? It's your girl, Sam Jay. And we're the hosts of Everyone Watches Women's Sports, a new podcast from Together and iHeart Women's Sports. We're breaking down the biggest headlines. Naomi Osaka showing out. Shout out to you, Naomi. The viral moments. I've been obsessed with Kashawn Rock's boxing journey. She looks good. Her combos are swift. And the stories everyone's talking about across women's sports.
Because everyone watches women's sports. Listen to Everyone Watches Women's Sports on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of iHeartRadio. Good morning. This is Laura. Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast. Today's episode will be a slightly longer one, part of the series where I interview fascinating people about how they take their days from great to awesome and any advice they have for the rest of us. So today I am delighted to welcome Ryan Hawk to Before Breakfast. Ryan is the author of the new book, The Price of Becoming, and is also the host of the Learning Leader Show. So Ryan, welcome to the show.
Thanks so much for having me, Laura. It's good to be with you.
Yeah, I'm excited to have you here as well. Why don't you tell our listeners a little bit about yourself?
Oh, wow. So my favorite thing to do outside of time with my wife and my children is to do this, to have a deep, long-form conversation with a leader who's putting a positive dent in the world. I've been lucky to do that for 11 years. My podcast is called The Learning Leader Show. And I have so much fun. In fact, I literally was just doing it before we connected here. So it's pretty, this is different for me because I'm on the other side of it, but I enjoy these types of conversations and feel really lucky that I get to do it for a living. And off of that, now I've written, we're talking about my fourth book here, The Price of Becoming. So Yeah, I'm just excited that my life's work is stuff that I deeply, deeply enjoy and am passionate about and that it hopefully helps other people and I get to keep doing it.
So, yeah, I appreciate you having me and getting to talk about all this stuff.
Absolutely, yeah. I mean the idea that we're getting paid to like talk to interesting people is pretty awesome when you come to think about it. Not bad. So what would you say is the main message of The Price of Becoming? If someone's picking up the book, what are they going to take away from it?
It stems really – at the end of keynotes, you do Q&A sometimes, and a lot of times the question you get or one of the questions that I would get are – like, hey, what's the one quick thing I could implement right now that could be transformational for me? And I'd give these answers and try to pay attention to both the questions and the things I ended up saying.
