Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Welcome to the latest episode of Accidental Business Owners. The premise of the show is that two years ago, Seamus and I left our nine to fives to go all in on the Between Two Beers podcast and the other businesses we were building alongside it.
That's when we realized we needed some help. We linked up with Di Foster, who's a business and mindset coach, and decided our coaching sessions were worthy of being broadcast, and we ended up creating this show.
Each episode is a new coaching session where we work through the raw realities of building our business. In this episode, we're talking about our execution phase and the realities of building, filming and travelling across the world to film our new World Cup football show.
Accenture Business Owners is supported by Odoo, making business smarter, easier to manage and more affordable. Try Odoo free for 15 days at odoo.com. No credit card required. That's odoo.com and stay tuned for the Odoo listener question later in the episode.

Good morning, boys.
Hey, Di. Morning, Di.
Beautiful day in Hamilton today.
Always is. I don't know why you say that like you should be surprised. It's always a good day.

Chapter 2: Why did the coach decide to stop coaching during execution season?
A little bit.
Concerned? I'm not sure if concerned is the right word. Apprehensive? Well, yeah, we just had a chat before and you said, trust me, I've figured it out. I had a night's sleep and I know exactly what we need to do. I wasn't part of that conversation, so I've written ABO on my bit of paper. And so I don't know what this is or where we're going.
For those of you that don't know, Steve's a bit of a control freak. He likes to know exactly the conversations that are going to be had before they're had. I do. Anyway, we're moving back to, we used to do these much more on the fly and that's what we're doing today. We're going back to that. Yesterday was quite a big day for me.
You know, I talk to people all the time about looking after themselves, and I came away yesterday going, that would be a novel idea, Di. How about looking after yourself?
Well, it was a weird energy yesterday, wasn't it? Yes. Like, I'd flown in from Wellington, and I, yeah, I don't know, kind of, when I walked in, I thought, oh, jeez, have I farted and not realised and stunk the room out? Because it was a bit odd.
Yeah, I can't explain that. It was just, it was a bit odd. But anyway, we got through. At 8.30 last night, after going for a walk and having some beautiful food, I was sound asleep in bed at 8.30 and I slept through till 5.30 this morning and I literally woke up with light bulb moment. Ding! Yeah, ding! Grabbed my notepad and mapped out everything and went, I can see it clearly now.
So, here goes. I'm always pushing you guys to kind of look ahead so I can say, be careful of this, watch for this. What do you want? I mean, if anyone's listening and goes, oh my God, here she goes again. What do you really want?
What do you really want?
Why is that important? It's because at the moment you two are slightly misaligned on that and that comes into the business from time to time. So Steve had a really great chat to Claude on Sunday, which is a slight eye roll because it's like it's really good and there's some very Claude-isms in it that are like, roll your eyes. Anyway, the essence of it is great.

Chapter 3: How do misalignments affect team dynamics in business?
And I think there's a risk and a danger there that I know that I overload myself because I'm also trying to do these things on top of it. And then having that fear of letting it go. Like it took ages to let go of the listen back to an episode.
Yeah.
To then be completely hands off and just be trusting that the edits and the decisions that are made are totally fine.
Yeah. What's an example of something you're currently struggling to pass on to share?
Because this is like the complete opposite of where Steve's like, take everything. If I don't have to ever see my desk again, it's okay.
I think there are probably like World Cup things. And then I don't also know whether that is just a bias that I have of leaning on my own skill set, because that's an area that I did for 20 years quite comfortably.
And then I fall into that trap, and it must be a common trap that other people do of being like, well, it's going to take me two minutes to do it, but it's going to take me 15 minutes to explain it. And then with that ticking clock in my own head, it's like, do I have the 15 minutes to explain it to save me? It's just that.
Things are moving so quickly that it's just that decision filter of going, you do that, you do this.
The comment that I would make is it comes down to a season. So it might not be the right time at the moment, but it will be when you get back, when there's a little bit more time and a little bit more breath.
