PSYCHIATRY: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Today's Episode Alexandra reviews chapter 9 from the Psychiatry Morning Report book. A 25-year-old female presents to the outpatient psychiatry office for emetophobia (a fear of vomiting). She reports her symptoms have been going on for “as long as I can remember.” She describes that even thinking about vomiting will make her feel nauseated. She avoids food for days at a time to have an empty stomach to circumvent throwing up. She constantly washes her hands in an effort to avoid germs that could potentially lead to emesis from a gastrointestinal illness. She reports that these symptoms control her life.
