What is the opening banter and personal headlines for this episode?
A listener production.
Hi, I'm Hannah. And I'm Sarah. And this is Big Small Talk.
This is the podcast where we try and cover the entirety of the news cycle, from the serious to the frivolous, all in one place. Because loving pop culture doesn't mean you don't understand politics. And today we're going to be talking about Matt Canavan worrying about the feminization of schools, Alex Earle's reality TV show, Mamdani banning AI in schools, why the Met Gala exhibition for next year has been cancelled, and the Lindsay Clancy mistrial. But before we
begin today's episode, we would like to start by acknowledging the traditional owners of the land on which we're recording today, the Gadigal people, and pay our respect to elders past and present. But before we get into the actual news, tell me your personal headline for the week. I'm here in my airport outfit. So if you see me on the reels this week, know that I chose this ugly look.
You don't at all. This is a great jacket.
Thank you. Your skin is glowing. Thank you. It's so true. I am getting on. I'm going straight from here to the airport because that's how dedicated I am to the podcast. Just to be so clear. Yeah.
We're also recording on a Monday.
We're recording on a Monday. We've actually changed the schedule, but I was like, if I flew out on a Monday night, could we do an early record? So congratulations and thanks to Sarah and producer Justine for hustling to get this ready for a Monday as well. I really appreciate it. But about to go away for a couple of weeks of annual leave. I haven't had any annual leave yet this year. So it's extremely exciting proposition to me. Off to Ireland. Off to Ireland for a wedding. And then Meeple, Tony and I go into a few places. But it's, oh, actually, can I give a specific personal headline shout out to, on Saturday, I went out for a cocktail with three of my girlfriends and I got to the pub and these three girlfriends that I was going with, like they're serial late people.
Like I knew I was going to get there late. I got there five minutes late on purpose. Tough reputation. Yeah. Yeah, but I knew even getting there five minutes late, I was going to be 15 minutes early. And was I? Yes. 3.20 was the arrival time for a three o'clock booking, allegedly. While I was by myself, guess who came up to me? Who? A lovely young man named Angus who went, I wouldn't usually do this, but you say on the pod that you and Sarah like to be approached. He goes, I listen every week. And I said, oh, one of my colleagues, Kalila, is coming to meet me for a wine. But I didn't say Kalila. I said, one of my colleagues. And he goes, is it Sarah?
Yeah.
Thank you, Angus. He was so sweet. He was so sweet. And then at our, we did a community event last week and a lot of, there was a table full of people that were podcast listeners and they went over and producer Justine also came to the local community event because she lives locally and she was sitting at a table of BST listeners. Anyway, I come over and I said my partner's name and they went... And Justine's husband goes, sign an NDA. It was really fun. So we've seriously met
some listeners this week. Do you know how many people, when they meet me, go, and what's his real name? LAUGHTER And I never tell them. It's really funny.
I just love that there's other people that will be like, NDA is out. And I'm like, guys, it really doesn't matter if you meet me in person. So many people meet me in person. Like, can I have one question? I'm like, it's going to be about women's rights. And they're like, what's your partner's name? I'm like, oh, we failed the Bechdel test there. Anyway, what's your personal headline for the week?
Okay, I moved house.
Wow,
huge. And I forget. I haven't actually moved house in four years because I've been in the same share house for four years.
Your landlord has been
good
to you. So good. A rarity. And so absent. Yeah, you've actually never heard from them. You have had a flooded house. So when I say good, I mean like it was cheap rent for the situation. The walls are caving and the roof is broken.
