Chapter 1: What are the latest updates on the Toronto Blue Jays ahead of their series against the Orioles?
All right, welcome back to Blair and Barker, brought to you by Capital One. Capital One, giving credit to Canadians for 30 years. Mr. Barker, of course, is gone for the weekend. And he will be back on Monday. We'll have lots of baseball this weekend.
Chapter 2: How have the Blue Jays performed recently against the Marlins?
A four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles. The first pitch scheduled for tonight is 635. It'll be Patrick Corbin on the mound for the Blue Jays. Chris Bassett. It was four and three. It's a 551 ERA. Chris Bassett on the mound. For the Orioles, again, that'll be 635 first pitch on Sportsnet 590, the fan at Sportsnet. No indication yet as to who will start for the Jays tomorrow.
And we do know Trey Savage will start Saturday.
Chapter 3: What is the status of Tyler Heineman's roster spot with Alejandro Kirk's return?
And good old TBD as well on Sunday. And the Jays pitching, needless to say, is in a bit of a state of flux right now with Dylan Cease going on the IL. Connor Seabold is with the team. Austin Voth is with the team, or Voth. whatever they pronounce it.
He is with the team, and we'll get a clear indication as to how the Jays are going to use their pitching, how they're going to use their pitching going forward in this four-game series. And then, of course, the Jays move on to Atlanta. Charles McAdoo has joined the team as well, with Lenine Sosa going on the I.L. after getting hit by a pitch. Let's bring in Chris LaRue.
Chapter 4: How has Patrick Corbin managed to limit home runs this season?
No, you're all right there. Chris LaRue. I don't know where to sit. You're okay.
Chapter 5: What is the current state of JUCO baseball according to Jeff Passan?
You're in the far side. Camera. Other side.
Let me fix all this.
No, he's right there. He's good.
Chapter 6: What insights does John Schneider provide before the game?
He's right here. Everything's fine. He's got his Guns N' Roses shirt on. Everything's good. Boy, I mean, there's a lot to get to. I mean, the Jays have so many injuries that they actually had a guy on. They had Chad Dallas's name plate in the clubhouse today, and lo and behold, he's not with the team. So there's obviously a lot of stuff in flux right now. Look, they're what?
They're two games under .500.
Chapter 7: What are the implications of the MLBPA's proposal for a salary cap?
The last time they were two games under .500, I believe, was DTD much, much earlier this month.
Yeah.
Feel better about this team now after what you saw from them against the Marlins in that three-game series?
Well, I mean, it's hard not to feel better about them. I think the biggest thing for me is, and it's got to be the biggest thing for the majority of people, is when is Vlad going to start to look like Vlad? And I've talked about Vlad a million times this season. You've talked about Vlad a million times this season. So I hate to do it again, but as...
As excited as I am about Nathan Lucas or Tyler Heinemann with his 10-pitch walk or Ernie Clement with his home run the other day, it all comes down to Vlad. And this team can't get to where it wants to go without Vladimir Guerrero Jr. With that being said, the offense is starting to look a little bit better. Jesus Sanchez is starting to look a little bit better. I just like the fact that
Tyler Heineman, who's won for his last 20, I think, I'm not exactly sure on those numbers, is doing everything he can, everything possible to be a part of this. Right.

Chapter 8: How might the upcoming labor negotiations affect the future of Major League Baseball?
Whether it's the 10-pitch walk or whether it's the home run the other day or whether it's throwing out, I think, four guys yesterday, three guys maybe. He's credited with four, yeah.
Yeah.
So those are the guys that need to step up. Those are the guys that need to put down that sack of bunt or throw a guy out or do something on the base paths, steal a base, make the opposing defense feel uncomfortable until a guy like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. steps up. Alejandro Kirk comes back and starts hitting. George Springer starts hitting for more slug. I think that that's important.
So I want to focus more on guys like that than ā when will Vlad step up? Or when is Alejandro Kirk going to come back? Or when is George Springer going to look like the 2025 version of George Springer? And it's fun to watch. Just because I was one of those players when I was playing. I was a Tyler Heinemann who was trying to find his footing and really fight for every opportunity that I had.
So to hear rumblings of... of where is Tyler Heineman going to be in two weeks when Alejandro Kirk comes back? Is, is, is Brandon Valenzuela going to stay here and be the backup? I mean, I, I can't see, I can't see a world where Tyler Heineman's not on this roster. Yeah. And it seems like you, you might agree with me. Yeah.
No, I, I mean, Kevin and I both made this, uh, both made this point, you know, we can roll our eyes or whatever, whenever the, an organization says, well, you know, depth is a factor and all that, and you're going, well, I mean, really, if you get rid of Tyler Heinemann, how much is that really going to impact things with Alejandro Kirk coming back, et cetera, et cetera?
You know, Brandon Valenzuela is very much the flavor of the month right now, and credit to him. I mean, he's taken advantage of the opportunity. But I keep getting back to this question, and that is, when am I going to play Brandon Valenzuela? And I know Barker would say it's all about winning. Yes, it's all about winning. But Brandon Valenzuela can't help me win sitting on the bench. Right.
And I don't know where the DH at-bats would come from. As long as you have George, you're going to have that situation. You're already going to be managing Addison Barger's workload. It's one of those things where Brandon Valenzuela, on balance, probably deserves... to beat out Tyler Heineman for the job.
But my question is, I get the way I look at is this Chris, would I rather have both of them in the organization or just Brandon Valenzuela organization in the organization? And right now, Yeah, I kind of lean towards keeping Tyler. And, again, this is all subjective. We need to see Kirky come back and play every day. We don't know how much he's going to be.
