ALOHA! PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT WHAT I'M DOING 👍🏾 I APPRECIATE YOU!This episode is about the #37 entry on my list of the 50th greatest albums and records of my lifetime. And this episode once again features the man whom I (and many) consider as the greatest of all time, Michael – NO, NO, NO!! STOP…..IM SOOOO SORRY. BUT HE’S NOT THE GOAT IM REFERRING TO. SO SORRY. No, the GOAT I’m referring to is the incomparable and unmistakable greatest ever, Mr. Quincy Delight Jones, Jr. Some notes to remind you: Sounds and Stuff like that was released in May of 1978. That’s why it’s one of my fave albums of all-time, as I was really coming in my musical age during that time. Quincy Jones is one of only 5 artists that have multiple entries on my 50th Greatest List compilation (he joins Earth, Wind and Fire, Prince, Michael Jackson, and Stevie Wonder)This episode features some of the best music from 1978Disco and dance music was becoming more popular in 1978, ever since the release of ‘Saturday Night Fever’ in 1977Quincy Jones did this LP in 1978; now consider this - in 1977, he worked on the epic show, “Roots’, doing the music for that. BUT ALSO IN 1978, Q WOULD WORK ON THE FILM ADAPATION OF THE HIT BROADWAY MUSICAL, ‘THE WIZ’, WHERE HE WOULD MEET A TALENTED WUNDERKIND OF A PERFORMER AND VOCALIST NAMED MICHAEL JACKSON. SO…THINK ABOUT IT….FROM 1977-1979, QUINCY JONES WOULD DO MUSIC FOR THE HIT TV SHOW, ROOTS….THE MOVIE ‘THE WIZ’…HE ALSO PRODUCED AND RELEASED THE FEATURED LP HERE (SOUNDS AND STUFF LIKE THAT), AND THEN IN 1979, HE WOULD GO ON TO PRODUCE MICHAEL JACKSON’S ‘OFF THE WALL’ LP. WOW! IN THREE YEARS, Q WORKED ON FOUR INCREDIBLE MUSICAL PROJECTS AND HE ACED EACH ONE! Again, the radio stations, WAAA in Winston-Salem, and WQMG in Greensboro, both played all of the best music of this time period for me.As always, Quincy Jones brought together some of the best that the music industry offered during that time. Sounds and Stuff Like That featured such famous vocalists as Chaka Khan, Luther Vandross, Valarie Simpson, Patti Austin, and musical artists as Q protege, Bob James….Eric Gale….Steve Gadd….Herbie Hancock….Wah Wah Watson, Hubert Laws, Tom Scott, Michael Boddicker, the list goes on and onAlbum is certified platinum. As I’ve done in the past, I’ve featured other songs from the year that this LP was released. Some gems to note, ‘Annie Mae’ from the late great Natalie Cole, the LP named “Thankful.” Annie Mae is somewhat of a coming of age song from Ms. Cole, as the lyrics speak of a rebellious young woman who ends up out on the street to make her life her own. This song was a B side song that was played on radio back then but it carries a funky, bumpy groove with it, along with Ms. Cole’s glowing vocals. Also, there’s music from Prince, LTD, Andy Gibb, and others here as I salute the greatness of the Quincy Jones once again.
