PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT WHAT I'M DOING 👍🏾 I APPRECIATE YOU!Jam out with me as I present to you the first volume of hip-hop mixes that I’m doing for the podcast as it’s 2023 and we’re celebrating 50 years of hip-hop! There is soo much hip-hop music. I first fell in love with “rap” in 1979 when the Sugarhill Gang came out with their monster smash, “Rapper’s Delight” and a lot of historians say that this song was the “official” first rap song. I would say, well…that’s probably true but what about “King Tim the Third” a song by the Fatback Band that came out a few months before Rappers Delight? Regardless, no matter how you debate that, one thing for sure, is it was actually on 11 August 1973 when DJ Kool Herc, a Jamaican born immigrant from the Bronx, performed ‘the merry go round’ technique of mixing two songs back to back to get the “breakbeat” or the best part of the song going. DJ Kool Herc had the BEST soundsystem and with that, he had a special mixing skill and played the best part of the music to get everyone dancing and having a good time. DJ Kool Herc played some of the best soul, funk and R&B songs during those days for his sister 's party at their apartment located in the Bronx housing complex on this fateful, historical day in August. Nobody knew - but this event would birth the most significant and life changing cultural movement of a lifetime! It would become known as "hip hop" and it would leave the Bronx neighborhood and literally take over the world! during the last 50 years, the movement, the culture, the lifestyle, the music and the social impact of what is today called “Hip Hop” has without a doubt, changed the entire world. This is my first salute mix to the music that not only changed my life, but millions and millions from all walks of life, all colors, creeds and people from around the world!
