ALOHA! PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT WHAT I'M DOING 👍🏾 I APPRECIATE YOU!What is it about the 1980’s that gives me so many memories? What a silly question! Its because the beginning of the 1980’s was the beginning of my adult life and it was the beginning of the rest of my life, a life of service and great adventure unlike any other. In September 1980, at the age of 17, I left my home of Winston-Salem, NC and joined the US Navy. My late cousin and I, Adam Wayne Love, had actually signed up during the beginning of our senior year in high school, back in the fall of 1979. Adam and I were best friends and cousins, and God gave us the opportunity to serve our country. We'd talked about joining the military, I dont really know who convinced who, but somehow the thought of us serving together became a dream that we just didnt want to let go of. But the real true gem of this story is that Adam and I got to go to boot camp together in San Diego, CA from September to November 1980 - and that in and of itself, was a blessing that I will never, ever forget. So, my love affair with the 80’s began for sure during the summer of 1980. But my true love of music (which had went with me when I joined the Navy), took a big leap in December 1982, while I was stationed in Hawaii. It was there that I first got the 'dj' bug, and it would stay with me for the rest of my life! As the decade moved on, my lust and craving for all things music was in full power because for me, the 80’s was THE BEST DECADE OF MUSIC!! I mean the 80’s had everything: big hair rock bands, funky ass soul groups, something new from England and the UK called ‘new wave’ and ‘punk’, then there was best dance music that was ever created, as well as some dope ass R&B - AND HIP-HOP! But guess what else came from the 80’s - some of the best female vocalists ever to sing the glorious beauty and love of music! It’s hard for me to put my love of the ‘Ladies of the 80’s’ into two shows and to be honest, I’m probably going to have to do at least one more show because the body of music of women in the 80’s, I find it hard pressed that even since then, there’s not been too much of any other decade or generation that has come close to the bar that was set by the women musical artists of the 80’s. So sit back and go on this journey with me as I share with you some of my favorite female artists from the 80’s, and their wonderful contributions to the wonderful world of music.
