Worries are building in Iran about a wider protest crackdown. The country's Internet blackout is going on eight days and counting, even after President Trump said he'd gotten assurances that the killings of demonstrators will stop.
Bloomberg's Tyler Kendall has more on whether Washington is preparing for a U.S. military response.
It depends who you talk to on Capitol Hill, but we have definitely heard from some perhaps more hawkish members.
Senator Lindsey Graham, who yesterday told reporters that he would prefer a bigger strike compared to targeted strikes and to take this opportunity to capitalize on what has been this perhaps more interventionist sense from the Trump administration on the heels of what happened last week in Venezuela with the capture of Nicolas Maduro and also President Trump's ramped up rhetoric when it comes to Greenland.
Bloomberg's Tyler Kendall in the nation's capital. Activists say nearly 3,500 people have been killed in Iran and at least 20,000 arrested since late last month. When it comes to Greenland, a bipartisan group of members of Congress is in Denmark today looking to offer assurances to members of parliament there. Democratic Senator Chris Coons is leading the delegation.
Part of the point of this trip is to have a bipartisan group of members of Congress listen respectfully to our friends, our trusted allies and partners here in Denmark and from Greenland, and to go back to the United States and share those perspectives so that we can lower the temperature and have a more constructive dialogue about the best path forward.
Democratic Senator Chris Coons spoke from Copenhagen. Meantime, the European Parliament's longtime trade chair tells Bloomberg the EU is considering tying approval of the trade deal with the U.S., with President Trump backing off his threats to take over Greenland. Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado is defending her decision to give her Nobel Peace Prize medal to President Trump.

Chapter 2: What is the situation regarding the Internet blackout in Iran?
The president and several northeastern governors are asking a major grid operator to auction off 15-year electricity contracts to major tech firms. Bloomberg's Mike Shepard reports it's the latest effort to keep the AI race out of Americans' utility bill.
We have seen them rise just in September. They were up 7.4 percent overall for retail. And from the start of last year through August, they were up 10.5 percent for residential customers. And that is the biggest increase that we have seen in years. consumers and, yes, voters are really feeling the pinch of what is happening in the AI boom.
Bloomberg's Mike Shepard reports the deal could be a boon to GE Vernova. The maker of natural gas turbines is higher by 5 percent, while independent power producers like Vistra are down 7 percent. Constellation Energy is lower by 9 percent. We also got regional bank earnings this morning. PNC shares are higher by 3% on better-than-expected results.
Regions financial missed on earnings and total loans. That stock's down 3%.
