Why are Iranian officials pessimistic about a deal with the U.S.?
There's a lack of progress in US Iran talks. Iranian officials have privately expressed pessimism about reaching a deal to end the war with the US and reopen the Strait of Hormuz before the midterm elections in November. Begin more with Bloomberg Middle East correspondent Abir Abu Omar in Dubai.
Really at this point it's a question of who blinks first and who kind of succumbs, for the lack of better word, uh to the others' asks. Uh but the the main concessions remain the same. Uh Iran says that for the time being, any ceasefire deal will be to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and then anything else will have to come uh with the asks that they had laid out previously, which are uh unwavering or removing those oil sanctions. sanctions, unfreezing the blocked assets uh and pretty much some of the fourteen concessions or some of of the of the notions that were laid out in the fourteen concessions and that MOU that was signed in June.
And that's Bloomberg Middle East correspondent Abir Abu Omar who reports a US official as saying there will not be a pact with Iran unless issues regarding the country's nuclear program are addressed.
