Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

0.672 - 15.001 Stephen Carroll

Hello, I'm Stephen Carroll. I'm in Brussels, where many of Europe's biggest decisions get made. And I'm Caroline Hepke in London. We're the hosts of the Bloomberg Daybreak Europe podcast. We're up early every weekday, keeping an eye on what's happening across Europe and around the world.

15.422 - 37.48 Stephen Carroll

We do it early so the news is fresh, not recycled, and so you know what actually matters as the day gets going. From Brussels, I'm following the politics, policy and the people shaping the European Union right now. And from London, I'm looking at what all that means for markets, money and the wider economy. We've got reporters across Europe and around the globe feeding in as stories break.

So whether it's geopolitics, energy, tech or markets, you're hearing it while it happens. It's smart, calm and to the point. And it fits into your morning. You can find new episodes of the Bloomberg Daybreak Europe podcast by 7am in Dublin or 8am in Brussels, Berlin and Paris on Apple, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts.

News when you want it. With Bloomberg News Now, I'm Doug Krisner. Three American service members have been killed in action during operations against the Islamic Republic. The U.S. Central Command did not say where they were killed or under what circumstances. Five others were seriously wounded. And at the same time, President Trump said the U.S. sank nine Iranian naval vessels.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump also said Iran's naval headquarters was destroyed in a separate attack. Now, these developments came during the second day of bombings across Iran. On Saturday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior leaders were killed. This was a watershed moment in the 47-year-old existence of the Islamic Republic.

Even so, President Trump says, the strikes will continue.

109.229 - 117.164 Unknown

Combat operations continue at this time in full force, and they will continue until all of our objectives are achieved.

117.305 - 124.639 Doug Krisner

Now, these actions have drawn criticism from members of Congress. Here is Pennsylvania Democratic Congresswoman Madeline Dean.

124.872 - 147.726 Madeleine Dean

We have not been told the president's objectives. The American people were not briefed on the president's objectives. Congress was not briefed, even though he was four days before in front of the American people in a joint session of Congress at the State of the Union address where he had, I believe, the obligation, the duty to make the case to us.

Chapter 2: What recent events have occurred involving U.S. military operations in Iran?

331.324 - 338.555 Doug Krisner

Among the data points for financial markets in the week ahead is the February jobs report. We have a preview from Bloomberg's Karen Moskow.

Ahead of Friday's employment report, we get a look at ISM manufacturing on Monday, while Wednesday, the Federal Reserve releases its Beige Book of Economic Conditions, and we also get the ISM's look at service industries. It's the same day Apple hosts events in New York, London, and Shanghai to showcase new products.

Thursday is the weekly report on initial jobless claims and the import price index. And on Friday, investors will be watching the February jobs report for signs of cooling in the labor market. We'll also get retail sales figures. Karen Moscow, Bloomberg Radio.
