News When You Want It with Bloomberg News Now. I'm Doug Krisner. The first session of high-level talks between the U.S. and Iran has concluded in Switzerland. These talks will continue this week. And the comments from mediators are reducing anxiety in financial markets. Earlier, Qatar and Pakistan said there has been encouraging progress and a high-level committee has been established.
It's already agreed on a roadmap toward reaching a final deal within 60 days. And at the same time, a communication line has been formed with the aim of creating safe passage for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
We heard this evening from Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Arachi, on X. He said Iranian oil and petrochemical exports have been waived, the blockage lifted, and some frozen assets released. Arachi also said a major reconstruction and development plan has been launched for Iran. We have more from Bloomberg's Jill Desus.
I mean, if you're just taking that at face value, this pretty short statement coming from that foreign minister that does indicate that there's a line toward talks improving there. We also obviously had that statement from Pakistan and Qatar. They've been the mediators on all of this, saying that there is some of that progress made.

Chapter 2: What recent developments have occurred in US-Iran negotiations?
Burnham will be sworn in as MP on Monday, making him eligible to launch a leadership challenge against Starmer. Here is Bloomberg's James Woolcock.
25% of Labour's own MPs have called for Keir Starmer to go. This has been building. There's been building and building and building. And Keir Starmer will say everything is fine. He's in charge. It feels like we might be at the tipping point where the private bitter infighting is going to lead to a public change. But I'll say until the prime minister says something, it's still private infighting.
That is Bloomberg's James Woolcock. President Trump clashed again with Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Maloney over the weekend. Trump insisted Maloney ask over and over for a photo with him at the recent G7 summit, something Maloney called completely fabricated.
Chapter 3: What progress has been made in the talks between the US and Iran?
Trump also criticized what he said was Italy's lack of cooperation during the war with Iran. Then writing in English on Instagram, Maloney called Trump's constant, unprovoked attacks senseless. In Washington, an FDA panel has signed off on a first-of-its-kind flu vaccine using mRNA technology. More from Bloomberg's Amy Morris in Washington.
The new shot is made with the same mRNA technology that was key to ending the COVID-19 pandemic. Moderna is seeking Food and Drug Administration approval for Influciva as an option for people 50 and older. There are already several types of flu vaccines to choose from, but experts say adding a faster-to-manufacture mRNA option could be useful.
This move by the advisory committee is another step toward a final decision ahead of the winter flu season. In Washington, Amy Morris, Bloomberg Radio.
The Fed's favorite inflation gauge is due this week, and it will likely show things are getting worse. More from Bloomberg's Monica Ricks.
We'll get the personal consumption expenditures price index on Thursday, which is expected to show acceleration on both a monthly and year-over-year basis in May and reinforce the need for interest rate hikes as energy shocks continue spreading across the economy.

Chapter 4: How are financial markets reacting to the US-Iran negotiations?
But it's not just in the U.S. Investors and policymakers will be watching for inflation updates from several countries, including Canada, Australia, Japan and the U.K. this week. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has refused to offer his own outlook, but many Fed officials have forecast at least one quarter point rate hike by the end of the year. Monica Ricks, Bloomberg Radio.
In sports, Wyndham Clark has won his second U.S. Open title. Clark finished four under par for a one-shot win over Sam Burns at Shinnecock Hill Golf Club. At the World Cup, we had four matches slated for today, and in the first three, Spain defeated Saudi Arabia 4-0, Belgium ended in a scoreless draw against Iran, and Uruguay and Cabo Verde ended at a 2-2 draw.
