In the roughly 25-minute speech from the White House East Room, the president said newly declassified intelligence reports show China tried to acquire U.S. voter data, Venezuelan voting machines were hacked, and roughly 200,000 non-citizens were on state voter rolls.
Put together, these disclosures reveal an election system so broken and so vulnerable that no one can possibly defend it. It is not defensible.
And President Trump in remarks heard live on Bloomberg Radio. We get more from Bloomberg News senior editor Derek Wolbank.
He had a lot of comments about China, about China's role in prior elections. And that was a much more critical tone toward China than this president has taken. in recent weeks and months especially, surrounding and since the visit that he paid to Xi Jinping.
And that's Bloomberg's Derek Walbig. China's foreign ministry says it has no interest in interfering in U.S. elections. A spokesman says the president's claims are aimed at vilifying China. Now to the latest on the war in the Middle East. The U.S. is continuing its strikes against Iran. It has carried out a sixth consecutive night of strikes intended to degrade Iran's ability to attack commercial shipping. Iran responded by attacking U.S. bases in the Middle East as well as Kuwaiti water and power plants. We get the latest with Bloomberg News Director Will Kennedy.
The US only has air power here to enforce its will. We don't know exactly how it's choosing its targets or what it's doing, but it does seem to be doing the same thing every night. And we know from history and the recent conflict that it is hard to move conflicts forward through air power alone. Perhaps the better piece of leverage that the US has is its blockade of Iranian tankers. That will have an economic impact on Iran, but it will take some time for it to be really felt.

And that's Bloomberg's Will Kennedy. The latest escalation as oil on the rise once again with NYMEX crude oil at more than 2.5% at $80.91 a barrel. Brent up more than 2% at $85.97. And oil is up about 12% this week. Andy Burnham has officially been declared leader of Britain's Labour Party and he will become Prime Minister on Monday. Mandatory evacuations across the Texas Hill Country are underway as life-threatening flash floods wreck bridges and roads with more heavy rain. A wide swath of Texas is forecast to receive as much as eight inches of additional precipitation through this morning to cap off a week of downpours that revive memories of the catastrophic deluge that killed more than 130 people a year ago.
Two people have died in this latest round of flooding. Smoke from hundreds of wildfires burning across Canada and parts of Minnesota, again making for hazardous conditions across the Midwest and Northeast. On top of air quality alerts, it's also affecting airline travel. The FAA had to slow arrivals into Philadelphia International Airport, and pilots reported seeing thick ash in the air. In Maine, eight of the Democrats suddenly running to replace Graham Platner in the Senate race held their first debate last night. Secretary of State Shanna Bellows was asked which idea of Platner she most agrees with on the NewsCenter Maine stage.
The single idea from Graham Platner that spoke most deeply to me is that he's right. The democracy that we thought we had has been deeply corrupted by those in power in Washington.
