6.308 - 24.942 Show Ali

Hey, everyone. Show Ali here with you. Welcome back to another edition of Jace Talk Field Access on the Sportsnet Radio Network. For those who have not yet joined us for one of these, these are our conversations with players, coaches, support staff from your Toronto Blue Jays, whether it's myself or Ben Shulman, who are conducting these. We'll be bringing these to you.

Probably a few times a month until the end of the year. Another thank you goes out to you if you're a frequent listener to us on the Sportsnet Radio Network. Of course, thank you whether you listen on the radio or podcast. But if you do join us on the radio, you've probably heard at least some of these chats live on the various pregame shows.

0

43.275 - 65.259 Show Ali

So this is simply just a place for these chats to live going forward. I've mentioned this pretty much every time, but if there are any players you want us to try and speak with that we have not yet done, shoot myself or Ben a DM on Twitter or Instagram or to the Fan590 Twitter or Instagram page, and I'm sure someone will pass that along to us ASAP. But in any case, let's get to those chats.

Chapter 2: How does José Bautista reflect on his time with the Blue Jays?

76.61 - 104.457 Show Ali

Ben spoke to Edwin on the field on Edwin-Jose bobblehead day. And then that same day, Jose had joined Ben alongside Chris LaRue in the booth on one of our broadcasts live on Sportsnet 590 The Fan. So our producer, Christian Ciannini, has sliced out that seven-minute chunk for you on this particular episode of the show. And then Ben afterwards also spoke separately with Canadian reliever

Coverage of Blue Jays baseball continues on the Sportsnet Radio Network. I'm Ben Shulman, joined by former Blue Jay first and third baseman Edwin Encarnacion. Edwin, thank you so much for the time. Thank you for having me. What is it like? You're back in Toronto with Jose for the bobblehead, celebrating the history of the Blue Jays as well. How has it been?

0

140.502 - 143.927 Ben Shulman

I know you've been around here coaching, but how has it been to be back with Jose?

0

144.11 - 153.361 Edwin Encarnación

Yeah, it's different. You know, every time we host it, it's a lot of good memories that we have together for this organization.

Chapter 3: What insights does José Bautista provide about the Blue Jays' recent success?

153.401 - 173.19 Edwin Encarnación

So I'm very happy. I enjoy every moment we are together, especially in this city. How big is this city for us and how many love they bring for us here. So we very appreciate that every time we're together here. So I enjoy it. How does it feel?

0

173.291 - 188.477 Ben Shulman

You walk into a ballpark that you had so many memories at. At the same time, it looks a little bit different than it did even a couple of years ago. What is it like for you? We're talking right now on the field, to stand back on this field. Not that far from third base where you would have started with the Blue Jays before moving over to first as well.

0

189.132 - 207.253 Edwin Encarnación

Every time I'm here in this stadium, like I say, it brings me a lot of good memories that we have here. This is a city that we have a very special moment back in the day. We bring this team from the bottom. to the top.

0

Chapter 4: What experiences does Adam Macko share about his MLB debut?

207.273 - 221.788 Edwin Encarnación

So it's a very special city, very special stadium for me. Every time I come here, my face change. So I put my face back like when I used to play back on the day and bring me a lot of good memory.

0

221.937 - 238.168 Ben Shulman

Speaking with Edwin Encarnacion, you talk about bringing the team from out of contention into contention, and that kind of happened for this team last year as well, where after some years of getting knocked out early or struggling to make the playoffs, they make a run all the way to the World Series. How much did you watch that?

0

238.228 - 243.237 Ben Shulman

What was it like to see the Blue Jays succeed at that level, getting all the way to the World Series?

0

243.588 - 274.368 Edwin Encarnación

It was crazy, man. I enjoy every moment. I know the talent that we have, the talent that we have with all those players. It's very special. It's a very special team. I enjoy every moment last year from seeing the World Series. This city deserves what they do for the city. I'm very happy to to see all those players, what they do for this city last year.

0

Chapter 5: How does Adam Macko describe the support he received during his debut week?

275.149 - 293.322 Ben Shulman

You coach him with the team, have been around Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for a long time as well. He had such a big breakout in the postseason. What has it been like for you to see his evolution from a young player getting established at the Major Leagues to being the star of baseball really for a whole month?

0

293.774 - 324.11 Edwin Encarnación

Team Bloody, he's a special kid. At his young age, what he's been doing is something you don't see much. I remember when I was that age, I wasn't even close to where he is right now. He's a very special kid. He has a great talent, one of the best talents in this game. Enjoy every moment. See him, how he plays, see his approach at the plate. And see him doing good for this team. It's very happy.

0

324.13 - 325.052 Edwin Encarnación

I feel very happy for him.

0

325.633 - 326.454 Ben Shulman

Last one for you.

0

Chapter 6: What challenges did Adam Macko face while transitioning to the MLB?

326.615 - 341.078 Ben Shulman

You're back here with Jose. Obviously, you guys hit a ton of home runs for the Blue Jays over your time. If we got you both in batting practice right now, do you and Jose, do you think you could both get them out? And if you both got them out, who do you think could hit a deeper home run right now?

0

341.058 - 352.239 Edwin Encarnación

I think I beat it. You got it? I got it easy. No, he's still in shape. I'm still in shape. I think we can do something, have fun, yeah. But I wait. I wait.

0

352.259 - 356.848 Ben Shulman

All right. Well, if someone goes down this series, maybe we'll sign you to a one-day contract. But, Edwin, thank you so much for the time.

0

Chapter 7: How did Adam Macko get into baseball and what inspired him?

356.948 - 358.932 Edwin Encarnación

Thank you. Thank you for having me.

0

359.738 - 372.754 Ben Shulman

The Blue Jays leading the Pirates 3-1. I'm Ben Schulman alongside Chris LaRue, and we have the pleasure of being joined by 10-season Blue Jay outfielder and third baseman at times, Jose Bautista. Jose, thank you so much for the time.

0

373.134 - 374.776 José Bautista

Thank you for having me.

0

374.796 - 385.729 Ben Shulman

Kevin Gossman's first pitch to Valdez misses up and in. Ball one. So you're back in town today with Edwin Encarnacion. What's it been like to be here at Rogers Center and be around Toronto again?

0

385.996 - 398.852 José Bautista

It's great. I always enjoy my time back here. It's been an action-packed last few days. 1-0 pitch, foul, back, 1-1. I was doing a little bit of stuff with my Mary Brown's Chicken collaboration.

Chapter 8: What are Adam Macko's thoughts on pitching in front of home fans?

398.972 - 420.137 José Bautista

I went to Holland Bowl View Hospital this morning and unveiled a very nice lounge for the teens over there that the J-Scare Foundation and I collaborated on. And yeah, all this stuff around the bobblehead today has been cool to hang out with Edwin all day, and it seems like things are going to change. He's been busting my chops all day long, so I don't have to sit there and tolerate it.

0

421.619 - 441.012 Ben Shulman

2-1 count right now for Gosman. We're talking with Jose Bautista, two of his former teams here, the Blue Jays and the Pirates. Pitch misses up and in 3-1. Can you tell us a bit about the teen lounge that you're talking about today, your work with Holland Bloorview Hospital? Because that traces back, if I'm not mistaken, to your time with the Blue Jays working with that hospital as well.

0

441.059 - 465.636 José Bautista

That's right. We used to go and visit from time to time. We obviously took turns. The whole team used to go in and out of there. Just, you know, show up, spend some time with the kids and whatnot. So, you know, as part of my retirement and level of excellence celebrations, one of the gifts that the Jays decided to shower me with was an allocation of money to redo something around town.

0

465.676 - 483.044 José Bautista

And we picked Holland Bloorview Hospitals and their teen lounge, and it came out great. It gives people a little bit, and the kids there, and their families a space to kind of enjoy unplugged from having to go through treatments and such. So I think it allows them to kind of take a break from things from time to time.

0

483.064 - 485.847 Ben Shulman

Very noble cause. 3-2 pitch from Gosman, hit foul.

485.867 - 489.191

How much input did you have in terms of design? And don't lie to us.

489.892 - 506.147 José Bautista

A little bit. I wish I was that good at design. I thought you would. I could have subcontracted myself. But we picked a great firm. I forget the name of them. But they did a good job. It came out amazing. And obviously, they hired the expert to make sure that it came out great. And it did.

506.167 - 528.981 Ben Shulman

Very cool. 3-2 pitch misses down and away. And Valdez will take a walk to lead off the inning. So you're back here in Toronto. You were here a couple of years ago. But even since then, a lot has changed. The Blue Jays make a run to the World Series last year. How much were you locked into that? What was that like for you to watch this team get as deep as they've gone since 1993?

529.13 - 547.246 José Bautista

It was great, and by the way, I was here for most of those playoff series, so maybe you forgot. No, I remember now. You were out there in the building. I was in the building getting everybody cranked up and worked up. So, no, it was a fun playoff. Obviously not the outcome that we all wanted, but, you know, new year, and it's time to go at it again. But the guys played great.
