While you were away and having a grand old time of it in the Dominican Republic, there was a lot that happened in the NFL, as I'm sure you know, when you were keeping up on things. The big one around here would be the acquisition of Geno Smith. Did that catch you by surprise at all? What were your thoughts when you heard that news?
I mean, it had been floating around for about a week to 10 days that they were very, very interested in him. And I guess what they had to do with the Raiders, they just had to figure out the amount of money. that the Jets were going to be paying Gino Smith. Now, they're paying him, what, $3.3 million, I think?
I think they gave him an extra million dollars just to make the trade, to make him happy and looking forward to come play for the Jets. You know, he fits the bill. So he is a veteran quarterback. He's not going to go win you Super Bowls. He's going to be able to get you in and out of the huddle.
I think last year was an anomaly given how well he had played in Seattle in previous years, and one of those anomalies was because of Chip Kelly was his offensive coordinator in Vegas, and he ended up getting fired in the middle of the year.
And then even Pete Carroll came out and said that he blames himself for Geno's performance last year and that he would be a perfect fit for what the Jets would be looking for. So... What you're hoping, and like I said last week, what they're hoping for is to find somebody like when Ryan Fitzpatrick was here. Somebody that actually can help you win games.
Hopefully he's not going to be doing what Russell Wilson did for the Giants early last year, throwing those interceptions late in games. That's not what you want. What you want is you want a seasoned veteran quarterback that basically costs no money against your salary cap situation. Check. Which I love. And the other thing that Darren Muji has done here, he's signed a lot of one-year contracts.

They're an 11-point favorite. I thought that spread was very low. Do you know anything about ā because look at Northern Iowa. They have 12 losses. They're from a no-name conference. And here we are. We just beat UConn by 20. And I think that spread should be in the 20s.
I happen to agree with you, and Boomer said it before, too. That's what I'm saying. So we'll get to see them, and I'm sure they have not seen anything remotely close to the athleticism and intensity that St. John's brings. You just got to hope that after winning the conference championship and winning the conference tournament and beating UConn and doing all the great things that they've done, that they don't lose sight of of what the big prize is.
And that's where the coach comes in.
You know why they're not going to? Because you look at what they've done on the stretch here. They have not lost sight of what they're supposed to do. We just talked about it, ran down a lot of their games, 17 of 18, 18, and whatever the hell it is to finish the season. They don't lose games they're not supposed to lose, or they haven't in the last three months, essentially.
They have been one of the best teams in the country since basically the calendar turned to 2026. And with that head coach, I find it hard to believe that they would come out flat you know, in this first round game.
Yeah, I would also say that by virtue of having a five seed as opposed to a three or two seed, you should be angry, but it also does reflect some of the bad teams that you've beaten. Like, in other words, you haven't been tripped up by a bad team. And by the way, Northern Iowa is probably not a bad team. They're probably a reasonably good team.
Well, if they're in the tournament, they are a reasonably good team, but that doesn't mean that they're on the level of St. John's. No, of course not. But I do agree with Tim. You would think that the spread would be more, but we would also think that St. John's would be higher than a 5C2.
