Chapter 1: What is discussed at the start of this section?
It's the Boomer and Geo podcast from WFAN. And we're coming to you live from the built-for-tough studio, Boomer Esiason, Greg Giannotti. It's Boomer and Geo on the fan sidlecast across the country on CBS Sports Network and wherever you are on the free Odyssey app. Go! Monday morning, got the Knicks looking great against Denver and then terrible against the Lakers.
You got the WBC cranking if you're into that sort of thing. And NFL free agency. Yes, it's a tampering period and you got whatever stupid euphemistic title is attached to it. But it's noon today. That's what it is. It is noon today. Things are going to be flying around. Things were already flying around over the weekend. You had Max Crosby dealt to the Ravens, which was a bit of a shocker to me.
Thought it was going to be an NFC team. And we're going to find out sooner than later the biggest question of the offseason around here in New York. Who the hell is going to be the starting quarterback for the Jets? Could it be Geno Smith? Could that be the one? Could it be Carson Wentz and Frank getting back together?
It's not going to be something that's going to blow your doors off, but we want to know. Good morning, Boomer. How are you? Yeah, good morning, G. I'm doing all right. And I have to tell you, so in the last two weeks, there have been, what, eight, seven or eight NFL trades? Yeah. And when we left on Friday, I said, man, buckle up because it's going to get really, really busy.
I think the tampering period's already started myself, and none of these trades are consummated until March 11th, which is the new year, which obviously is Wednesday. So today at noon comes all the negotiations, supposedly, and you can actually reach out to agents and players can reach out to coaches and things of that nature. So when you think about this, so it really, I mean, like you had...
The Jets, I kind of feel like kind of got this thing started over the last two weeks. You know, when they traded up for Devondre Sweat from the Titans for Jermaine Johnson, their edge rusher. Then you had David Montgomery going to the Texans from the Lions. They also released Joe Mixon at the same time.
Then you had the Patriots trading center Garrett Bradbury to the Bears because the Bears center was retiring. Then you have D.J. Moore going to the Bills. And then you have, of course, Max Crosby, the big one, going to the Ravens, which is incredible.
It sounded like the Patriots were involved there, and there were some people out there within the NFL hierarchy when it comes to media saying that Tom Brady would have never traded Max Crosby to the Patriots. And then you have Zaire Franklin going to Green Bay. He's the Indianapolis linebacker. And then, of course, the Buffalo Bills traded Taron Johnson to the Las Vegas Raiders.
And that doesn't even count Trent McDowell. Right, which happened. Who is now going to be the highest paid defensive back for the Rams. He went from the Chiefs to the Rams. And by the way, like I said, the Rams are going to have to spend money because of this rolling three-year salary cap floor that they have been under.

Chapter 2: Who is going to be the starting quarterback for the Jets?
I mean, they're looking to be right back into the mix. They didn't fire John Harbaugh or move on from him because they're rebuilding. They want to reset, and they want to go right back at it in the AFC, and nothing says that more than trading a couple first-round picks for Max Crosby. I see a video where Max Crosby goes, oh, I can't believe this is real. Believe it's real because you...
demanded a trade out of there for the last six months. And I guess there was something to be said about that supposedly heated conversation or tense conversation that he had with Tom Brady at the Raiders facility.
That's right.
And then the whole Alex Guerrero thing that we brought up last week and I didn't like him milling around. And even though he loved Mark Davis, because who doesn't love Mark Davis, there was just too much happening there for Max Crosby with all the losing that was going on to want to stay there. So he goes to a winning organization.
I mean, those are two times that we've seen two first round picks go within the conference. One with the Jets and the Colts with Sauce Gardner and now Max Crosby and the Ravens and obviously the Raiders. And you don't normally see that. I feel like when teams are making these big deals, and I know it's not within the division, but within the conference is still rare, I feel like.
But not with these two deals. Yeah, you know, the other thing too now is that the Las Vegas Raiders take over the top of the NFL draft power rankings with this trade of Max Crosby. They just passed the Jets. The Jets have been holding on to that spot since the season had ended. Now, there will be compensatory picks that are added into this list.
It looks to me like there are going to be 16 teams that don't get anything. And then there's going to be like two or three teams that are probably going to get at least four picks. And remember, they're tied to whatever they have lost to free agency and whether or not a minority has come off of their staff and gotten a higher job somewhere else.
So that's all kind of factored into the mathematical equation for compensatory picks, which probably will be announced later. I would think Wednesday. So we'll find out more as to who is getting more picks and where those picks will reside. It's usually mid-third rounders all the way up to the seventh round. So those will be added into the mix now.
But right now, when you look at where the Jets are, obviously still 216, 33, 44, and 103. So they have five picks. in the top 103 players. The Raiders have 114, 36, 67, and 102. So they have five picks in the first 102 players. So there you have it. And, you know, this is going to be a game of chess now for Darren Muji when it comes to not only free agency, but when it comes to the draft.

Chapter 3: What NFL trades happened over the weekend?
So there's got to be somebody that is able to get in the huddle on day one and be able to call play. They're not, you know, they don't have time. They have to win some games. Oh, of course. I mean, I am fully... I know that a lot of fans will say, oh, you get the number one pick next year, and then who the hell knows? Are you talking about a richer quarterback draft? No.
That's not the way that Woody Johnson's looking at it. It's not the way that Aaron Glenn's looking at it. That's not the way Darren Moochie's looking at it. These guys have to look like they have a handle on what's going on. This year, win some games, not be a joke to keep their jobs. Now, when you say you think you have an idea of what they're going to do at quarterback, what is it?
Because you said that. I think I have an idea of what they're going to do. You can't say that. You're trying to put me on the spot. You can't say that and then not say anything. All I'm saying is that, so I moved to four different times in my career. And all four times that I moved into my career before I moved to that place, the question was, are you proficient in this offense?
And for those guys, listen up dropping crumbs here. This is a crumb drop. This is a boomer. Crumbs. I mean, stop. You got to stop making stuff. I'm not making stuff up. This is a crumb drop. This is what you do when you're not going to say something. You're just dropping crumbs and leaning us to a place. Oh, So go ahead. No, no.
I'm just saying that in all four times that I moved, I spoke with the offensive coordinator. Now, twice I knew the offensive coordinator really, really well. So he knew that I was able to handle his offense and everything that he likes to do. And then the other two times, same kind of situation. where I knew the offensive coordinator and I knew what he wanted to do.
Now, when I moved to Arizona, it was Jim Fossil. And Jim Fossil ran the same offense that I had ran in Cincinnati for 13 years and that I had ran with the Jets here. And when he... presented the game plans to me, all he did was switch the numbers around, meaning that the higher numbers were the running plays and the lower numbers were the pass protections. So I could learn it relatively quickly.
You know what I'm saying? So all I'm trying to say is that if they do go with – and, look, I see all the stuff on – on social media. I want this guy. Don't get that guy. This guy sucks. This guy stinks. I mean, this is where the jets are. This is where you're not. No, nobody's going to be happy or not. Everybody's going to be happy.
I should say they're going to be, they're going to be detractors no matter who they sign, because that's just exactly what the world they're in right now. Yeah, of course. And the Jets are going to have to get that stink off them themselves somehow, some way. So, all right, so you're telling me it's either going to be Jacoby Brissett or Carson Wentz.
I don't know if Jacoby Brissett, the Cardinals want to keep him. What are they going to do? I think if the Cardinals go for Malik Willis, Which obviously makes sense because they're little floor brothers, you know, and conversations back and forth. And whether or not Matt tells Mike, hey, Mike, you know, this guy would be great for you guys out there in the desert.

Chapter 4: How does Max Crosby's trade impact the NFL?
Is he looking next year to this quarterback class of next year? And in order to be involved in that quarterback class of next year, you obviously have the draft capital maybe to hold on to to see what happens next year. You know, maybe you go a cheaper way at quarterback. Who knows? All I can think is, like, you don't hire Frank to come in here and not have a profound effect on the offense.
Like, you're not bringing him in here so this offense does what it did in the last five years for the first time ever and last year, last five games. I think they're, like, the first team in NFL history to lose five straight games by whatever it was, 24 points or more. You're not bringing Frank in here because that's why you're bringing him in here. Yeah. So you don't go through that crap again.
I mean, it was Aaron Glenn going, I need help and I need someone I can trust who's a friend to come in here and help me dig out of this disaster. And also help manage certain offensive situations, especially if Aaron's going to be calling the defense.
Because if you're calling the defense, you're spending a lot of time on defensive adjustments, looking at the game plan, looking at the tablet, talking to your defensive captains, talking to his new defensive coordinator. Meanwhile, the offense is on the field. You know what I mean?
And you've got to have a guy you can trust that's going to be up in that coach's box, and he's going to be able to say, hey, listen, we can go for it here. I've got to play for us, or let's punt it away. He has a guy now that he can actually count on and trust in situations like that, which is a help, I think, to Aaron Glenn.
Yeah, and if you look at the guys that Frank has worked with, there's only two guys that are available to... And maybe Jacoby Brissett isn't available. We don't even know.
Yeah, we don't know that.
So there's really two guys that would make sense that could come to the Jets. That's Carson Wentz and Jacoby Brissett. And Wentz we know can, and Brissett we're not sure. But if you think of some of these other guys... A lot of retired guys, like Nick Foles, Phillip Rivers, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning. There's a lot of retired guys.
And then you have Sam Ellinger, who just signed, again, to be a third-string quarterback out in Denver. Bryce Young, they're not getting rid of Bryce Young. So Brian Hoyer, who's got to be 100 years old now in NFL years. But again, there are also those wild cards, like the Deshaun Watson wild card. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's also the Tanner McGee from Philadelphia.

Chapter 5: What are the latest updates on NFL trades and free agency?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. They'll figure it out. It's the Boomer and Geo podcast from WFAN. All right, Boomer and Geo coming to you live for the Build Forward Tough Studio on the Fan and CBS Sports Network. Lines are open at 888-828-1019. And that is the Red Pocket Mobile fan lines brought to you by your new ultimate cell carrier, Red Pocket Mobile.
Less than four hours from now is when free agency really starts. Names, teams, contracts, all that's going to be out there from the NFL insiders.
Chapter 6: What are the implications of Kayvon Thibodeau's potential trade?
And then all that stuff will become official a little bit later in the week. So we're going to be paying attention to the Jets and Giants. And I'm really curious to see what happens with Kayvon Thibodeau. But I can't imagine. that he's going to be here next year.
I think that I know they picked up the fifth-year option and all of that, but just all the noise that you're hearing around him and how he's in trade packages and this and that, the injuries last year, and I don't know what you're going to be able to get for him in a deal because, I mean, he's had injuries and he's only been okay as the fifth overall pick in the draft, but I feel like the momentum is leaning towards Kayvon Thibodeau getting traded in this offseason.
Do you feel the same way? I kind of felt that leading up to this, I thought he would have already been traded over the weekend here. And that would have had to do with a lot of, you know, creating cap space and things of that nature. That still could happen. But when you think about the top free agents available right now, so a number of them are edge rushers.
So that may depress, you know, the market for Kayvon Thibodeau when it comes to trading him. Yep. So, you know, I can think of worse things than being stuck with him. I mean, but the fact of the matter is, is guys like Trey Hendrickson, Jalen Phillips, those guys are going to be available out there.
You got a number of other, you know, lower end edge rushers out there that may be prime for the pick and at a lower number and lower term. So the guys that are probably going to get the big terms are probably going to be Trey Hendrickson. Don't be surprised if he ends up with the Cowboys. Okay. I could see them because they did offer a first and a second for Max Crosby.
It took Baltimore to offer two firsts for Max Crosby. So I would think that an edge rusher like Trey Hendrickson would make a lot of sense for the Dallas Cowboys.

Chapter 7: How does Minka Fitzpatrick's trade affect the Jets' defense?
What do you think Tyler Linderbaum's going to get? Now, he is the free agent center that is highly coveted. He's going to set the market for center because he would have already signed with Baltimore, who gave him a legitimate top-end offer, and his agent knows that he's already got somebody on the hook. And it may be the Giants because, you know, maybe that's what John Harbaugh wants.
Yeah, I mean, I'm hoping the Giants bring him in, but it's going to be a lot of money. He's 26 years old, so still very young. Could I see a four-year... Like $90 million contract, somewhere around there. I mean, over $20 million per. That's what it seems like. Yeah. I mean, he is the guy when it comes to that position right now. And being available at this point in his career is huge.
And we talk so much about Bill Parcells coming in and getting Kevin Mawhi. It would be a similar type of... with John Harbaugh and Tyler Linderbaum? I would think so, and especially when a coach knows somebody.
So that's why when you go back to the Jets situation with Frank Reich, you've got to go and you've got to look at his past, look who he's had success with, and look what type of body type those guys are. And are any of those guys still playing and available? Well, two of them are. The question is, or do they go for a cheap alternative like a Kyler Murray? Yeah, I mean, I think.
It's not the physical size doesn't fit what I think they're looking for, but the financial size might fit. Yeah, little guy, little contract, you know? Yeah, I mean, like, and they could be getting ready for next year's, you know, draft hall or who knows what they took out of the combine and what they're taking out of these meetings and what they see on tape.
Because everybody looks at tape a little bit differently. You know, and that's why you have, like, the, you know, the Todd McShays of the world and obviously, you know, all the draft Knicks. You know, they see people differently. That's because you're dealing in human capital. Yeah. And it's not easy to put your finger on a guy and say that guy is going to be a gold jacket guy.
Now, of course, Dave Gettleman said that about Saquon Barkley, and maybe Saquon will end up being a gold jacket guy. They're saying the same thing about Jeremiah Love now. Running back out of Notre Dame. Well, no one said gold jacket guy. They're basically saying that he's one of the top five prospects.

Chapter 8: What are the origins of International Women's Day and its significance?
Well, yeah, but... And he put on a show at the Combine, and he had a great season at Notre Dame. Every Giant fan I've talked to, and I've talked to a ton over the last couple of weeks about the draft, they do not want to draft Jeremiah. None of them want to do it. They want a defensive guy, one of these top-end guys from Ohio State, or they want a wide receiver. Yeah.
By the way, Wandel Robinson apparently is going to be going and reuniting with Brian Dable down in Tennessee. There's a lot of momentum there. Again, a coach who knows a player and knows the system and wants a guy that knows what the system is. Yeah. What the language within that offensive system is. What about Geno Smith back to the Jets? Yeah, I've seen a lot of that. I mean...
Again, alternatives, price. Does he have anything left in the tank? It didn't look like it last year. Had a lot of interceptions left in the tank last year. Now, he looked great previous years in Seattle. Last year, he looked awful. Looked old, looked tired. And they fired Chip Kelly in the middle of the season. Not like they got much better after that. No, they didn't.
But, again, I don't know if that's in the offing for the Jets. That I don't know. Doesn't sound like it. If I'm reading your tea leaves. Doesn't sound like it. What? Every time you say tea leaves, I mean, like you're thinking like I have this inside information. Well, you do. I mean, you kind of do. More than I do. Yeah, that's true. So I'm just trying to figure it out. That's all. Okay.
Trying to do the best I can for the audience. All right. So I'm thinking Trey Hendrickson to the Cowboys. Okay. I'm going to say Tyler Linderbaum either stays with the Ravens or he comes to the Giants. Okay. I'd love to see him on the Giants. I think that'd be great. I'd say Malik Willis to the Cardinals. Interesting. I'll say Jalen Phillips. Edge rusher. He was with the Dolphins.
Went to the Eagles. Stays with the Eagles. I mean, does Howie Roseman love him? I don't know. Kyle Murray Vikings. Yep. George Pickens. I think he goes back to Cowboys. Yeah. How about Alec Pierce? He's going to go to Tennessee. How about Alec Pierce for the Jets? Yeah. What about Mike Evans?
Would you bring in Mike Evans at 33 with all his injuries to be like a veteran presence, end zone type of threat? I could see somebody like San Francisco or L.A. or Green Bay going after him. I mean, he's going to go somewhere else after all these years in Tampa. Yeah, unfortunately. But I could see him, like, you know how Devontae Adams with the LA? Yeah.
I could see that kind of thing, like where there's a coach that loves a veteran and loves a big target. And somebody that's obviously like, you know, Sean McVay, Mike Shanahan, they're entrenched. They're not going anywhere.
If he's going to leave Tampa and he's going to play another season, which it seems like both those things are true, he's going to want to go to a team that he believes is going to the playoffs. That could win and that he could actually make a difference with. Yeah, I think he could stay in Tampa and win as well. Could he end up going to Buffalo?
