Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
It's the Boomer and Geo podcast from WFAN. Hi, Boomer and Geo coming to you live from the Built Ford Tough studio on the fan and CBS Sports Network. 888-820-81019, number to join the show. And that's the Red Pocket Mobile fan line brought to you by your new ultimate cell carrier, Red Pocket Mobile. So things getting more interesting with Giannis yesterday as Shams...
posts on x and writes an article about how he officially requested a trade and now the milwaukee bucks know that he is not going to be a part of their future either at the trade deadline this year or in the off season after the season and you would wonder you know why would you wait till the end of the season if he's causing this much trouble well the nba which is very complicated i'm not going to get into the weeds about it but once the season ends there's more people
picks that can be traded. There's these rules about odd picks, odd year picks and even year picks. It's just a whole mess. That's why there has to be a third team involved. You're not going to be going. I think there's got to be four teams involved, to be honest with you. Yeah, maybe a third, three or four teams, but you can't do it straight up. It's just impossible.
You've got to make the money work. You've got to make the certain picks work. I think Mikael Bridges isn't eligible to be traded until February 1st, by the way.
Chapter 2: What trade rumors are surrounding Giannis and the Knicks?
Whatever that rule is. Well, yeah, but the deadline is February 5th, so... I know, but what I'm saying, if they wanted to make the trade today, they couldn't. If you were involved in the trade. I mean, we're like three days away from being able to make it, but yeah. So, I mean, they would figure out a way to get Mikael Bridges in the deal, which I think he'd have to be.
So, I'm doing as much reading as I can on this particular thing, and if the... I think the Golden State Warriors, as many people have reported, are in prime position to make that trade. However, Giannis has talked about only wanting to go to New York. So if he only wants to go to New York, first off, the Knicks are going to have to want him and make this trade. So that's one thing we don't know.
We assume that Leon Rose and Mike Brown and everybody over there and Jim Dolan would want to take Giannis. Giannis and have him on the team. But I don't know that for a fact, especially if they believe in Carl Anthony Towns more than we do. But let's just, for argument's sake, say that they do want Giannis.
So one of the teams that I think would have to be involved with picks and the way that they had a trade with the Bucs earlier too and everything else would be the Portland Trailblazers. So then you have the Trailblazers, the Knicks, the Bucs, and maybe another team
But the thing that I read that I think makes the most sense, and if they could somehow pull this off, where they would only have to trade, and it's only, but still, you're getting Giannis. You would only have to part with Cat, which you knew had to be gone anyway, Mikael Bridges, and Deuce McBride. If you can make a deal where you get Giannis and then somebody back. Drew Holiday.
You have to have somebody to replace Bridges. Exactly, I know. You need another wing guy. I saw somebody put out there, Jeremy Grant, who could replace that. He's got a big contract. He's a disappointing player, but whatever. So anyway, if you could do that, would you be happy with that?
So let's just say that on the surface, there's so many different moving parts, but for the audience to be able to digest, if you got Giannis and then someone to replace Bridges that was competent and could play and only had to give up Cat, Mikael Bridges, and Deuce McBride, you're making that trade because that team is a better team than what you have right now.
So that means Tyler Kolek would end up getting more playing time. Yes. How about if it were Tyler Kolek as opposed to Bridges? No, it's not going to happen. And not Bridges.

Chapter 3: How does the NBA trade process work for Giannis?
McBride. No. No. Okay. You don't think so? No, it wouldn't happen. No. Deuce McBride is a very tradable asset. Teams were going to want him. He's someone who's under contract. He's got a lot of talent. I mean, yeah. I mean, I don't think they're winning a championship. Just watching Carl Anthony Towns. I'm with you. You've convinced me. Okay. Okay. I think they're a good team. I think...
If they play like they played these last four games, especially the Philadelphia game and Toronto game, maybe they can make it to a championship. Maybe they can get through Cleveland. Maybe they can get through Detroit. I don't know about Boston and what their situation is and whether or not they think they're going to get Tatum back for the playoffs. That's a potential possibility. Again,
just watching it last night, especially the second half last night, it was pretty impressive. When they're rolling and they're rolling like they're rolling right now, it's pretty damn impressive. Yeah, I just think that they at some point run into a roadblock with Carl Anthony Towns.
If we get into another playoff series where he's falling down, taking stupid penalties or fouls and laying on the ground, That's going to drive us all crazy. Yeah, well, of course, and that's what I think we're going to get.
Now, I guess the best-case scenario would be if you're someone who wants Giannis but are not totally sure is that you end up getting him in the offseason after another disappointing playoff performance. I would be careful for Giannis for what he wishes for. And this is strictly – I know he loves New York. I don't know. Somebody says he might have a house in the Hamptons or whatever.
And it would be great for him and it would be great for the team and all of that other stuff. I mean, if you take one listen to what Mayor Mondami was talking about yesterday and about raising taxes for people like him. Now, I don't necessarily know that a lot of Knick players live in the city just for that reason alone.
Maybe they live up towards Tarrytown up by their practice facility because it's outside the five boroughs. So maybe they would not get pinched. Okay. But I'm thinking somehow some way New York is pinching their game checks. because they're playing at Madison Square Garden. I don't know. So who knows?
But whether it be California or New York, I'd be very, very reticent as a player to come to one of these two places just simply because of that. I'd be trying to get myself to Miami. Sure. I know Miami's in on this too. Yes, but we've heard so long, though, that Giannis wants New York. That is the one.
So if he forces himself there, he says this is the only team I'm going to, it's going to be very, very tricky to get it done. But I guess...

Chapter 4: What are the implications of Giannis wanting to leave Milwaukee?
Wouldn't that be, like, red flag? But honestly, that would be worse than if the Knicks had drafted Zion Williamson. Like, to finally then make another big deal to bring in this MVP and be like, okay, this is the guy we're going to go win a championship with, and then bang, his Achilles goes like everybody else? Yeah. It'd be horrible.
Yeah, that's always the... That's always, you know, the chance you take no matter who you're trading for. But not... And he's a guy who's in his 30s now who's dealing with calf injuries. Well, who knows how bad these calf injuries really are. You think he's faking them? No, I'm not saying he's faking them, but I'm just saying...
that any sort of tweak right now, it's kind of like the Rangers not putting Artemi Panarin back out on the ice.
I know they have a commodity that they want to trade, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's traded in the next couple days here simply because Carson Soucy had the same thing happen to him on Monday night, did not play against Boston roster management, that's what it was called, and then got traded to the Islanders. So who knows? Artemi Panarin could be going any day now.
And I would say that, you know, Whoever acquires him, now this is a little bit different because he's at the end of his contract and he'll be a free agent after that. Whoever acquires Giannis, he's got, what, two more years left on his contract? Yeah, you're going to have to extend him, yeah. Jesus. Well, that's the way it works.
I mean, if the team plays like it did last night in Philadelphia, and Carl Anthony Towns does what he does, and the ball moves the way it is, and obviously we know what kind of league it is. Make or miss. And he missed a lot of shots last night, Carl Anthony Towns. I know, but he had 22 rebounds. Yeah. I just, you either believe he could do it or you don't.
And you just told me you don't believe they can win a championship with him. The untouchables for you are Ananobi, Hart, and Brunson. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Those guys are all, those three starters,

Chapter 5: What does Sean Payton's comments about Bo Nix reveal?
I don't want to give up Mitchell Robinson either when he brings his team. So those are your four guys that are untouchable. Everybody else, you can move. I wouldn't love it, but if we're getting Giannis and that's going to be the thing. That's what I'm saying. You've got Mitchell Robinson, Josh Hart, Ananobi, and Brunson. Those four guys.
And then you add Giannis and whoever comes with Giannis, maybe Drew Holiday or somebody else. Now, all of a sudden, your team is different. You have a much more athletic center or five, whatever the hell you want to call them. And now, all of a sudden, your team is a run-and-gun team. It's a 100% running, and that's what Mike Brown wants. You know who it would be?
Some guy that you have talked about going to the Knicks for years, Miles Turner. You've always asked about him. Yep. I love that guy. Love that guy. Somehow they could end up with him on this team in this whole mess. That would be absolutely unbelievable.
Chapter 6: How did the Knicks perform in their recent game?
I think I interviewed him like four years ago on Game Time. Yeah. Love the guy. The interview was great, and he was awesome. I was like, man. Can you, like, wind your way out of Indiana and come over to the Knicks? Yeah. Can you go NBA psycho for us?
Well, I mean, Giannis is doing that now, and I just— The other part about this that we don't know, that everybody just assumes that the Knicks want to do this. I think they do. So you think that they're looking at Carl Anthony Towns as— Oh, yeah, just like we are. You do believe that? Okay. I do. All right.
I mean, they're not going to come out and say they can't because if it doesn't go through and they've got to play with this group— I would just say that this ramps up the pressure on Carl Anthony Towns, too. You don't hear the Knicks. If they were not interested, somebody, Mike Brown or, I don't know, Steve Stout, if he still is around. I don't think so, but I don't know. Whatever.
One of these people would come out and say, we're not interested. We like our team. We think our team's great. Now, they may say that after the trade deadline if they don't make a move. Right.
We always love this group here.
We don't want to go down this road with anybody. We love our team, and we love our guys. Then an NBA insider will come in and be like, oh, the Knicks offered this, and Towns was in the deal, but the Bucs didn't like it or whoever didn't like it. And I will tell you, you know, even again, just to go back to what's going on with the Rangers, the same thing's going on with the Knicks.
Like guys know what's happening. They know that their names are out there. Rumors are out there. They know what Shams is saying. They know that Giannis has gone NBA psycho. Yeah, they know that there is an opportunity there. Yeah, so, I mean, there are other teams that just make so much more sense from a compatibility trade standpoint. But Giannis could say, I only want the Knicks.
You know, it's interesting. When you compare this situation with Giannis... And the situation that Dallas had with, what's his name? Luka. Luka. You think about that. Two different, totally different situations. Because they did not put Luka up for bid. No.
They didn't do that because they knew if they did that, the Maverick fan, which the Maverick fan obviously reacted the way they did after the trade. The Maverick fan would have went nuts. But it also would have put Luka on notice. And maybe that he could have changed his ways there if he would have found out that they were going. Yeah, because he didn't want to leave. He didn't want to leave.

Chapter 7: What is the origin of the phrase 'drinking the Kool-Aid'?
with, it's like what the previous caller said,
little bit of a clumsy kind of tall thick guy in the middle that sometimes clogs things up but also gets a ton of rebounds i mean i'm not saying like he is a top 10 player in the league i'm sorry he is his numbers tell you it is but when you watch him play in a system like this he might he might have been better in a thibodeau uh uh you know system as opposed to a mike brown system what percentage of the audience do you think knows the true reference to drinking the kool-aid
I think most people in this audience have heard that statement. But do they know what it actually means? And why the phrase happened? So this is an Eddie spot. I got to ask Eddie. What percentage, Eddie, of the audience do you believe truly understands where the drinking the Kool-Aid phrase comes from? Yeah, we were actually, I just was talking about that with Alan. Oh, really? Yeah.
Oh, you guys just were talking about that? Well, just because of the caller's reference to it.
And I asked Al, I said, do you remember that? And he said he knows it historically but doesn't really remember. But I remember. And we used to subscribe to Time Magazine. And I have this.
Cover? The cover. Yes. Yes.
I remember that. I brought it up. That was just shocking.
Yeah, I mean, I watched the full documentary on it. But how much... First answer the question, though. What percentage of the audience do you think actually knows where that came from?
I will say close to 60%.

Chapter 8: What are the potential outcomes for Giannis and the Knicks?
But he ended up putting his three votes for the players. for Kenny Anderson, the former Bengal quarterback, L.C. Greenwood, the former defensive lineman of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Roger Craig. And he felt like those guys had great careers. They've always been overlooked, and they deserve a vote. And he wrote a very compelling article about it.
And because of the way that the bylaws have changed and the way now that you have to do the voting, there's a chance that a guy like Bill Belichick would get left off the ballot. And I think that's exactly what happened. I don't think it was anything personal against Bill Belichick. I think it's because now he hasn't retired from coaching. He's still coaching.
And he could still come back to the NFL and coach potentially, much like the great Joe Gibbs did. Joe Gibbs left, waited five years, got elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and then came back and coached. And that's the only guy that ever has done that. And now they've made the criteria. One year, a coach is out of the league. He's up for Pro Football Hall of Fame induction.
That's crazy because it does impact those other legends and contributors like Robert Kraft. You know, so I understand he should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but if he were going under the previous set of rules, he would have been on the first ballot, guaranteed, I would imagine, if he would have waited five years as opposed to two years. All right. Jerry Recco is here.
He's got an update. What's happening, Jerry? We are brought to you by Chef IQ, precision cooking, effortless results. ChefIQ.com on the football theme, not NFL, but is there controversy in Denver?
So this was – I missed this in his press conference, Sean Payton's press conference a couple of days ago when he revealed that when Bo Nix had his surgery for the broken ankle, they learned that he was kind of, for lack of a better term, damaged goods.
They always find a little bit more when they go in, and it wasn't a matter of if, it was a matter of when. So it wasn't – because when you look at the play, you're trying to evaluate it. He said – the doctor, operating surgeon, said that this was – This was going to happen sooner than later.
Meaning their ankle was going to break because it wasn't stable.
It might have had a spiral fracture or something in there that they didn't see, they didn't notice. So Bo Nix then calls a conference call yesterday after this press conference.
