Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
It's the Boomer and Geo podcast from WFAN. All right, Boomer and Geo coming to you live from the Bill Ford Tough Studio on the fan and CBS Sports Network. Take some calls this segment, 888-808-1019. And that's the Red Pocket Mobile fan line. Brought to you by your new ultimate cell carrier, Red Pocket Mobile.
Boomer believes we are going to find out who the new Jets offensive coordinator is in the next 24, maybe 48 hours, which is a good sign. Do you have a timetable for the Giants offensive coordinator? That seems to drag on a little bit. Davis Webb, who was linked to them, is going to be out tomorrow.
In Denver, we talked yesterday about other candidates, including Brian Callahan, who was fired by the Tennessee Titans.
I mean, this thing is dragging on a little bit as well, but I think the perception of the two organizations outside of the Steve Tisch thing, but the perception of the two organizations just football-wise is that John Harbaugh will figure it out and get the right guy, and Aaron Glenn doesn't know what he's doing. So I think that's why there's less pressure on the Giants to get this.
There are a number of people in both organizations that are helping this process out. I'm just going to give you that. The other thing, too, I think for John Harbaugh, and he knows this from being in Baltimore and the way that the Baltimore Ravens have always played underneath John Harbaugh, and I would also say even when Brian Billick was there, they played the same way.
It was defense first, then it was running the ball, making sure you had a top-end running game to be able to make it into the playoffs and kind of grind your way and slug your way through the playoffs, much like both New England and Seattle have done.
When you look at usually these teams that are in the playoffs, they either stop the run really well or they run the ball exceptionally well, especially if you're a Midwestern or Northeastern outdoor team. So John Harbaugh, I mean, like the thing about Cliff Kingsbury that would worry me, he's the air raid guy.

Chapter 2: What is the latest on the Giants' OC search?
You know, he's one of those guys that's always wanted to throw it all over the place. When in actuality, the substance of every football team and the toughness of every football team comes from running the football, especially outdoors in the Northeast at MetLife Stadium. So I think that that...
would lend me to believe that Brian Callahan does have a very serious chance to be able to do that because of his dad and because of his history and because of just the understanding that when you're outdoors up here, you better be able to run the ball. I mean, and nothing was more of an example of that than what the Patriots did the second half of the game in Denver.
When the snow was on the ground, what did Josh McDaniels do? It was run, run, run. And they just kept running the ball. They didn't score any touchdowns, right? They just had one touchdown and a field goal, and they won the game. Yeah. But they didn't turn the ball over, and they ran it, and they just kept running it.
And to the point where they did... I think they gained 100 yards or maybe a little bit over 100 yards. And some of that was Drake May, of course, but... I would think that that's where John Harbaugh is going to go. It's not going to be the air raid style offense. It's going to be a guy that's going to come in here.
It's going to have a highly touted running game or running background that's basically going to help Jackson Dart develop into what I would like to think is Sam Darnold and also what I see with Caleb Williams and Drake May for that matter.
Yeah, do you think that this is a major hit to the Giants because Todd Munkin is with Cleveland? I mean, do you need to know who the guy is before you believe that this was a step backward? Because we know that John Harbaugh is the CEO of the team, and he has input everywhere, and he's the leader and the buck stops here guy.

Chapter 3: Who are the top candidates for the Giants' offensive coordinator position?
But he's someone that entrusts his coaches into doing what they need to do on both sides of the ball.
Just remember, a son of a coach. Son of a coach. So he's a son of a coach. And he talked about his dad, you know, in his opening press conference and the influence that his dad has had on him and Jim, for that matter. And both understand the importance of what I've been talking about. So I'm not worried about John Harbaugh at all. I mean, he's here to be. But, I mean, that's what I said.
I'm not worried about him. He's going to be fine. He'll get the right guy in here. He will. He will. I mean, you know, it's just he will bring the right guy in here. I mean, it could be Greg Roman again. Yeah.
Again, the only reason I say that is because things got so much better with Lamar Jackson in Baltimore after he left.
Yeah, but again, that could be a personality thing. You never know. You never know why a quarterback... Even when they got let go in Baltimore, you remember the Todd Munkin interview after everything was over and how Todd Munkin blamed himself that he didn't have a better relationship with Lamar Jackson? Sure, yeah. I mean, that's really what it comes down to.
And I'm sure that they're trying to find the right personality that's going to fit with Jackson Dart and make sure that that personality comes in here with a really solid – New England, Seattle-type running game philosophy that's going to help this young quarterback develop into really one of the better young quarterbacks as he grows.
And the second year is going to be really, really important for him.
You know that Jameis ended up weighing in on who he wants as the offensive coordinator. I know you love stuff like this.
I do. Okay, so who did he weigh in for?

Chapter 4: How does John Harbaugh's coaching style influence team decisions?
I'm looking out for our young quarterback, man. I want him to be around people he's familiar with. And you hate that one. You don't like that one.
I don't hate that. You hate that decision. I just do not want a college offensive coordinator. I'm sure that Charlie Weiss Jr. is smart enough to – eventually ascend to being one of these coordinators in the NFL. It's just it's a completely different game. It's a completely different game. You're playing against the best athletes. You have the most difficult defenses that you have to deal with.
I mean, all the different nuanced things that go on in the NFL. And again, these two defenses that are in the Super Bowl are reflections of just how difficult it is to play against top-end defenses. And, you know, college stuff, some of it works, a lot of it doesn't.
Yeah, I mean, I think it's the players that you have, too, is a big deal. So some of these guys that are coming in as first-time coaches or first-time coordinators from college are taking over teams where they just fired a coach because the roster stunk or the team stunk for a long period of time.
I could see a real frustration with the head coach if things get off to a bad start offensively, if you don't have the right offensive coordinator offensively. And again, anybody who's ever played the game or coached a game, they know you want a rough and tumble physical football team. And the Ravens always had that reputation.
Now, to a large part, to the great Ray Lewis and what he did to that team and how he led that team from a defensive perspective. And you remember when Bart Scott came from the Ravens to the Jets, how with Rex Ryan, the whole... way to play defense and how they reacted defensively completely changed.
So I think that's kind of like what you want here for an offensive coordinator for the Giants and the Jets. I know if it's Frank or Greg Roman, they're going to want to run the ball first and foremost. They're always going to want to run the ball. And that is so key to success here in the Northeast. And again, like I say, these two teams in the Super Bowl are the prime example of that.
So it's not that hard to understand what you're trying to get to. The question is the personality and that person's background and can they convince John Harbaugh that they have this type of offense that's going to be a fit for MetLife Stadium.
Where are you going to watch the Super Bowl this year? Are you going to go over to the Schaefer Martin estate? Remember, it's 6.35 p.m. I understand what time it is. Trust me.

Chapter 5: What are the implications of Todd Munkin's move to Cleveland for the Giants?
Yeah, he was. So he was named the 2019 AP Assistant Coach of the Year and helped Lamar Jackson win unanimous MVP. But resigned in early 2023 following criticism of the passing game's stagnation and declining scoring output.
And then they added a few wide receivers. And then they added Derrick Henry. Yeah. It always helps when you have really good players.
Yeah. And also, we don't know how things... I mean, I guess I would imagine things ended well because he ended up working with his brother, Jim Harbaugh, but you don't know.
He got fired. He got fired from the Chargers.
I know, but he ended up working with them, so it's not like... My point is that it didn't end so poorly with John and Greg that it was like, John goes to Jim, don't hire this guy. He was stabbing me in the back and he's... Well, I don't know.
Yeah, you never know about those personalities, but I also know that the Chargers lost their two top tackles and then... We're basically playing with guys that they were just throwing out there. Yeah. And almost got Justin Herbert killed. Yep. That was bad.
It was ugly. And now they got Mike McDaniel out there. That slick son of a bitch.
Man, oh, man. So that's an interesting – like I said, that's another interesting hire between Jim Harbaugh. Getting rid of Greg Roman and then bringing in Mike McDaniel, that's going to be really interesting.
Yeah, I mean, two of the oddest men in football together in the same building. I mean, Justin Herbert's head's got to be spinning, man. Think about that. My two bosses are Mike McDaniel and Jim Harbaugh, and my girlfriend's Madison Beer right now. She keeps dragging me back to Suffolk County.

Chapter 6: What does Jameis Winston suggest for the Giants' QB situation?
He's been a head coach. He knows how to handle the questions. No, no, no. That's not a great start for Frank as a member of the Jets family. Just throw him right into the deep end there. Go out there and fight with these guys. That's right. Can't be much worse than some of the other Jet press conferences we've seen over the years. God. All right, CeeLo, what's happening this hour?
Sponsored by Chef IQ, precision cooking, effortless results, chefiq.com. It was Super Bowl opening night as the week is underway for the Seahawks and the Patriots out west. So, as usual, plenty of nonsense with those who do get credentialed for this event. Mike Vrabel didn't have time for this sort of BS.
Is this a must-win game?
A must-win? Every time we go out, it's a must-win game. I mean, it's kind of the attitude that I've always taken in the National Football League. I mean, what are we doing?
Yeah, have a little fun there, Mike. It's okay.
It's all right, man. Hey, man, it's a business trip, man. Business trip.
For him, yeah. I'd love to know what he would have really liked to have said to that reporter if he didn't have to filter himself. I couldn't. I would have preferred the expletive-laced answer to that one. But, you know, that's what you get out there, especially on that first night.
Speaking of nonsense, Sam Darnold was subjected to but played nice with Jimmy Kimmel's guy, Guillermo, who showed up to Darnold's booth and told him, Everybody is saying gay for May, but not me. I say ham for Sam.
He then presented Darnold with a bunch of ham-related items, including a big hat, which we're seeing on CBS Sports Network right now, shaped and decorated to look like a giant holiday ham, and he urged Darnold to go ahead and put that on for him.

Chapter 7: What are the key elements to consider for the Jets' QB search?
Yeah. I mean, I know it went to the Super Bowl elsewhere, and that really kind of solidified everything for him legacy-wise. But, you know, maybe 10 years down the road, 15 years. This is quick. Maybe he's thinking, like, hey, you need me. You need me to win these games.
I'm also thinking that Fox has got him running around the Super Bowl doing different things for them.
Oh, sure. Yeah. I'm sure that's the case. Pro Bowl games, the QBs, we know about. It's not the greatest list for obvious reasons. You do have Joe Burrow there, Joe Flacco for the first time in his career, and Shador Sanders, which people made a big deal of last week. They've got to change the name of this.
It ends every conversation about this if they changed it from Pro Bowl to something else because everybody hears Pro Bowl, and they think these are supposed to be the best players that aren't playing in the Super Bowl, and it's not what it is now. So then everybody wastes their breath and all this energy like, Shador Sanders?
pro bowler no he's not he's playing in a flag football game yes for entertainment so change the name of it to something the end of season luau who the hell knows get together but just stop the reason i bring it up is ian rappaport puts out a nugget yesterday uh one note on the pro bowl games jets qb justin fields was asked to participate he declined focusing on off-season training i mean so this was another one of those things yesterday people are freaking out i
How is he asked to be in the Pro Bowl? It's not the Pro Bowl anymore. Nobody wants to go. Nobody wants to do it. So then you get all these schlubs who get asked to do it, and then everybody freaks out because they think they're Pro Bowlers. It's not the same thing. They're schlubs. Shador Sanders and Justin Fields, in the context of NFL quarterbacks, are schlubs. Yeah.
Yes, to your point, Boomer, there are some stars there, people that decided they wanted to go hang out. But those two guys are not.
I'm sorry.

Chapter 8: How does Mike Vrabel view the Super Bowl as a must-win game?
When it used to be in Hawaii, guys really did enjoy going there. Yeah, when they played an actual game. And the game was, it got really bad at the end. Yeah. When I was in it, man, they tried to kill us.
Of course they did.
And those offensive linemen, man, those guys were sweating their ass off and they were drinking and eating all week long like it was a vacation. What about the kickers? What about the kickers? Yeah, there was Morton Anderson down there when you were down there. Oh, he was there a couple times, yeah. He was a good kicker, man.
He liked to have a good time, yeah.
Yep.
Wasn't that the famous Peyton Manning with Vanderjack, the idiot kicker?
Did that happen at the Pro Bowl? Lickered up kicker.
No, I mean, that was on with like, he was on a late night show. That's when it was? And it was after he missed a kick. Or something. I don't know what it was. But then he went on like a Canadian TV show, Vanderjack, and said a bunch of stuff. And then Peyton Manning came on and was like, that might have liquored up Kicker. Liquored up. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.
I was talking about something totally different. Well, I heard Kicker. That's why I came to mind. That's all. No problem. Yeah. It wasn't a great connection. I'll take the heat for that. All right. A little bit more Aaron Boone with Craig and C-Mac here on The Fan yesterday. You guys love a long question. I know you're into that. Oh, God. All right. Should we put C-Mac on the timer here?
