Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

Last night, you had a very entertaining college football game with Miami coming out on top over Ole Miss. So that whole Lane Kiffin coaching thing, and that's finally come to an end. So all the coaches that want to go to... LSU with Lane Kiffin. They were still there coaching last night. Ken and all of that. And Miami looks just like such an athletic, really tough team to beat.
But tonight for New York football purposes and NFL football purposes is the more interesting night because you've got what could potentially be the first quarterback and the second quarterback taken in the draft. And right now, as we sit here with many months to go, that's the most likely scenario. Fernando Mendoza being the first quarterback picked, who's playing for Indiana tonight, of course.
Heisman Trophy winner, number one team in college football against Dante Moore and Oregon. And because Dante Moore so far has been firmly second behind Fernando Mendoza and the Jets have the number two overall pick and obviously have... and opening at quarterback, these two guys have been linked, the New York Jets and Dante Moore.
So we will see how this shakes out, how the combine, if they throw, their pro days, all of that. But the discussion is going to be, and this is why it's so tough for these general managers to get it right when you're rebuilding. It's going to be, is Dante Moore going to want to come out and play for the Jets? I mean, and stuff like that does happen, by the way.
I mean, we saw it just this two years ago with Caleb Williams, who ended up going to the Bears, but he did not want to go to the Bears. And his dad was trying to get him to go somewhere else. And they wanted to go to Minnesota with Kevin O'Connell. He didn't want to go to the Bears. Now, he ultimately went there, and look what they're doing now. They got Ben Johnson. They won the division. But...
There is a chance that Dante Moore says, I'd rather stay in school, get a little bit better, make $5 million, come back into the draft next year and hopefully find a better franchise. You know, I personally would tell the kid to stay in school. He needs to play more. And especially if Oregon's going to give him some money to stay. Yeah. Got to remember that.
So the going rate for quarterbacks right now, top-end quarterbacks in college football is like $4.5 to $5 million a year.
So if he goes on and they are able to win the college football championship, or Jihad just has a great game tonight, and even if they lose, I still think he's a kid that I would think that Oregon would want to keep him, and I would think that he would want to stay, assuming that the money was significant enough for him. Because I still feel like he needs to play.

Chapter 2: What is the Jets' quarterback dilemma and who is Dante Moore?
My head is going to explode. It's going to be the same thing over and over again. It's going to be Zach Wilson 2.0. The exact same situation.
Now, I'm not saying that Dante Moore is going to be Zach Wilson, but as far as the inexperience, bringing a guy in who hasn't played a lot of college football, number two overall pick, missing out on the Heisman Trophy winner and the number one overall pick and all that stuff, it would be... Very, very similar.
And I don't think it's crazy to say that if Dante Moore doesn't come out and the Jets have all these picks, that it's okay if you don't get your quarterback in this particular draft. It's actually okay. You've got all these picks. You have to build up a team. And I know the Aaron Rodgers thing didn't work out. But Aaron Rodgers wanted to play for the Jets for a couple of reasons.
But the main reason was that young team went into Lambeau. Sauce Gardner's rookie year, Garrett Wilson's rookie year. They went into Lambeau and beat them. And they look great. And the defense looked great. The offensive weapons looked great. And... Aaron Rodgers said, man, that's a good young team that just needs a quarterback. And then he snapped his Achilles. Right.
But the point being is that for the Jets to get that, it's not impossible to convince the rest of the NFL world that you can win. They just did it with Aaron Rodgers. But right now, no one's going to believe you. So you've got to hit on these draft picks. You've got to build it up. And then it'll become an attractive destination for quarterbacks because it's just not right now.
Well, then the biggest question will be, who will be quarterbacking the Jets next year? Yeah, and it may be another one of these guys that don't excite you. It's going to be one of these guys that don't excite you. It's 100% going to be one of those guys. Yeah, I mean, unless it's Kyler Murray, who is half exciting. Could it be Mac Jones? I think Mac Jones.
I still think Mac Jones is going to go to Minnesota. If J.J. McCarthy didn't come out of that game in Week 18... And played well and finished. Did he take himself out of that game? Man, it looked like it. I mean, why? Because he was hurt. Again. It's that same thing, that same hand-wrist thing that he was dealing with.
So that to me was almost like a sign that was like, okay, he had played really well for a couple of weeks. They won some games. But then here he was again and just couldn't stay on the field. So I think I would love to see the Vikings go and get Mac Jones. And I think he would be great. Here he is like, hey, this is the video right here. Come on. I can't do it. My hand, man. Nine's hand.
The thing about it is that Mac Jones, I think, signed a two-year deal with San Francisco, so it's going to have to be a trade for him. Okay. Yeah, but if he goes – if there's someplace he can go and start, I mean, I think that Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch would be like, okay, we can get something back for him and let him go. But then again, the Vikings are an NFC team, so maybe they won't.

Chapter 3: How might Dante Moore's decision impact the Jets' future?
I mean, if they had it, then we'd be like, this is great. No, the Raiders actually screwed two teams in the AFC East. Okay, well, they screwed the Jets. The Jets, of course, because they ended up with the worst record. But by winning week one against the Patriots, that gave the Broncos the number one seed.
When they got down, I want to say it was like the fourth tiebreaker, and the Broncos swept the Raiders. And the Patriots lost to the Raiders in week one. Interesting. So look at that. All the way back in week one. And they're looking for a head coach as well. I know Fernando Mendoza is not going to be someone who he's going to be who he is for the rest of his life.
But it is interesting that a guy like him would end up in Las Vegas of all places. I mean, the Sin City, you know? It is funny. But maybe he is the right guy with the right attitude and the right frame of mind to come and be the jet savior. But chances are you're not going to get them. True. I mean, that's the issue.
That's why I think, you know, much like I was talking about, you know, rooting for a certain outcome that may end up changing the future, like I was saying with the Giants and maybe the Packers get blown out by the Bears and they move on from Matt LaFleur and then Matt LaFleur says the Giants is a great job with Jackson Dart and I'll go take that right away because you missed out on John Harbaugh.
Same thing here. Like, maybe Fernando Mendoza. Looks like crap in this game and still is going to be a top pick. But Dante Moore goes off in this game and then ends up beating Miami. And then the Raiders fall in love with him.

Chapter 4: What updates are there on Todd Monken and Lamar Jackson's relationship?
And then you're like, okay, well, now we got our guy. But it's just... Also remember, you still have the combines. You still have the prize and air days. And you also have the meetings. But it's just like we're so close but so far away with New York football. I think the meeting with Brian Dayball and the Giants is what sold them on Jackson Dart. Oh, sure.
Yeah, and that ended up being so far a great pick. But if you think about how close the Jets were, and we don't know if Fernando Mendoza is going to turn out to be
great in the NFL but still Heisman Trophy Award winner with the best attitude to go anywhere and a guy who's been the quarterback of the number one college football team all year long and could end up winning a national championship the Jets need that guy but they got the second overall pick not the first overall pick the Giants jobs open they look like the most attractive job there is
John Harbaugh becomes available. Everybody's linking the two of them together. And then here's Steven Ross going, no, sorry. I'm going to fire my coach and I'm going to pay this guy $10 gazillion and you guys can go scratch. I mean, we're so close but so far away from the game-changing people, the franchise-changing people that we need here.
But, you know, if they get Kevin Stefanski, like I'm saying, that's still a good thing. No, I think it's a good thing, too, but it's still going to be disappointing for Giants fans to not have John Harbaugh. And maybe, you know, Darren Mooji. I mean, being an NFL GM, because, like, you want...
You want so desperately to draft that young quarterback because building around that guy, if he works out, is the best situation. I mean, we're saying it right now with Jackson Dart and the Giants. They got the quarterback. They got the quarterback. They got him on a rookie contract. And then you can build around him. So, like, the tempting, you're so tempted to take that guy. But they can't.
You know? Right. So, Dante Moore will be 21 years old next year. And he has played, what, 20... 28 games. You know, it's not a lot of games. It is not a lot of games. And that's why I would, especially if Oregon's going to give him some money, go back another year. You're going to come out. You're going to be a top 10 kid next year.
You're going to be in a good situation at Oregon with Dan Lanning. He's a terrific coach.

Chapter 5: What happened during the Rangers' latest loss?
He's always going to have your team competitive. You're always going to be able to be, you know, you're going to throw a lot of passes. Yeah. And by the way, you know, he looks the part. I mean, he's physical. He can run. When he makes his decision to throw it, he's accurate. Accuracy, heart, football IQ, all of those things, you can measure the accuracy. But you've got to get to know the kid.
You've got to sit down and talk to him. You've got to talk to the coaches. And when all that stuff kind of opens up, that's when you really can make your determination as to whether or not you think he could run your football team. So last night, you know, the true freshman, he actually got reclassed and should still be a senior in high school for Miami. Running back, wide receiver.
They use him all over the place. Malachi Toney. Oh, yeah, yeah. He's 18 years old. He's supposed to be playing in high school. He's out there scoring touchdowns and doing all this amazing stuff. So the reason I bring that up is some guys, when we say he's 21 or he's 18 or whatever, you know, you're mature behind your years. But it's just when it's the Jets and it's that,
You want somebody who's been through it a little bit. Yeah, and you want the kid to wait. I mean, Jet fans, again, if you're listening to the outside world, you're going to be sitting with the outside world. And, you know, I don't have any idea what their offense sounds like out in Oregon. All I can tell you that an NFL offense is a completely different set of circumstances.
And then reading NFL defenses are a completely different set of circumstances. And that's why a lot of guys do struggle. And that's why a lot of young quarterbacks rely more on athleticism initially when they get in the league. That was Jackson Dart this year. He relied a lot on running. Oh, yeah.
But then when he was finally settled down and started reading defenses and you could see his accuracy, I mean, you said, okay, we got something here. Let's go to Bob in Belmar. What's going on, Bob? Boys, how you doing today?
Good. What's up, Bob? Hey, the Raiders are the Jets of the West, man. They're just as bad and need a lot more rebuilding. I wouldn't doubt if the Jets could end up trading to that number one spot. The Raiders end up stacking picks and rebuilding the franchise that way.
Well, why wouldn't they want Mendoza if Mendoza is healthy and plays well, at least tonight?
I'm with you there, Jay, but they need so many more positions. And with that number one spot, they see the potential of trades on the market. They can get a haul and absolutely fleece the Jets. Well, you know what?

Chapter 6: What was the controversial Evan Roberts clip about?
Super wild card weekend. Jerry isn't here. I haven't reached out to Jerry. The regular season picks are over. Boomer won, so congratulations on that. I don't know. Do we bother Jerry out and wherever the hell he is to get the wild card picks?
I think he's home sleeping now, I hope. Oh, is he? Okay. I think they got in in the wee hours from Champaign. All right.
Well, how many games did Boomer win by? Like two? Because there's 13 games left. Yeah, but it usually ends at the regular season. You know, that's the way we do it. Right, and I said what we should do is we should do our picks, and I'd also like us to do our projected Super Bowl matchup.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, we'll do that. So then we need Jerry. So, Al, if you don't mind texting Jerry. Wake his ass up. Just say, hey, Jerry, if you see this before 945. Wait until 8 o'clock to text him. You don't have to do it now. Well, he's not going to. That text isn't going to wake him up. Sometimes he could have his notifications on. Say, Jerry, we need your pics for wild card weekend.
Would have been helpful for me a few weeks back.
Yeah, that's right. You shut that phone right off. Yeah. And, yeah, we need your Super Bowl matchup, Jerry. That's what we need from you. All right, CeeLo, we need from you is an update. What's going on?
All right, sponsored by Chef IQ, precision cooking, effortless results, chefiq.com. So, yes, Mike McDaniel added to the list of head coaches canned this week. Todd Bowles is still kicking with the Bucs, at least for now.
So he decided to do some canning of his own yesterday, or maybe was urged to as he fired five of his assistants as part of an apparent overhaul for next season as the Bucs let go of their offensive coordinator, special teams coordinator, quarterbacks coach, defensive line coach, and their coach. cornerbacks coach, so we'll see if he survives all of this. You never know. Anything can happen.

Chapter 7: How is Pete Hoffman handling his rough week?
I don't know for sure. That's unconfirmed. Now, you've been presented both sides. Sure. Is Craig messing with Evan? Is he messing with Hoff? Is he messing with both? Or messing with just all of us. Well, I mean, clearly. Did he tee up Evans knowing he was going to throw Hoff under the bus, or is he just trying to bust Evans' chops because he's a baseball boy?
This is my best guess, is that Craig did hear the question, and then he decided that it was disrespectful and he wasn't going to play it. And then he made Hoff be the one who spiked it.
You heard the question. That was really disrespectful.
It had a tone.
It had a tone, okay.
And then even the way Craig was like whatever douchery question, he heard it because he sounds like that, Evan, in that question. Why would you never, ever, ever, ever with the Players Association? I think that's what happened. It kind of sounded like that.
Is it possible, though, he teed up Bevan knowing in advance that he was never going to play? It's possible, but I don't think that... Of course it's possible. But I don't know that that was the case. And of course, Hoff ends up being the one that takes all the bullets. It's been a tough week for him.
Right. Big tall man, little tiny chode. He's having a rough month and a half. Not a poor kid has gotten off to a bad start here. Yeah. Oh, boy. But to his credit, if he actually was the one who spiked the question, we all heard the question. Would you have spiked it? Yeah, I would have told him to, after I heard it, well, you could ask that question, but not in that tone.
I mean, you sound like a jerk. Okay. That's what I would have done. All right, so then we got to give Hoffman credit for spiking the question. Should we play that question back one more time? Sure.

Chapter 8: What are the implications of the Jets' draft strategy?
Two seconds of something else. Dead air. Right out of the gate. Not how you want to start.
So remember we were talking about how Peter Schwartz was in the Chili's and Beth Page and someone came up to him. That's another Hoffman faux pas this week. And someone said to Peter Schwartz, are you Pete Hoffman? Do you look just like him? So I go to Morash and say, have you ever been in the Chili's at Bethpage? He's like, yeah, Hempstead Turnpike. Of course you've been in it. Right on brand.
And I said, the tectonic plates between Schwartz and Morash are getting closer and closer and closer.
100%.
And then they're going to rub against each other and there's going to be this big fat earthquake somewhere.
Oh, boy. What can I give you here? Latest on Cody Bellinger. Brandon Cuddy of The Athletic reports the Yankees have offered Bellinger a multi-year deal with an AAV of $30 million, but his camp is still pushing for the seven-year contract, so no agreement there between those two sides. Yankees also agreed to terms with all their arbitration-eligible players. Notably, you had Jazz Chisholm Jr.,
Anthony Volpe, David Bednar on the list. Quickly, rough night for the hockey locals. Another home loss for the Rangers who get within one last night. Third period. They're dominating the third period. They get a four-minute power play with a chance to tie the game.
And then this happens.
McLeod, though, he can score shorthanded goals. He's got the puck.
