19.265 - 38.243 Gio

We touched on it with CeeLo last hour, but the most annoying thing to me about the Mets last night wasn't even the lack of offense, because I've already been annoyed by that. I'm already used to that with this lack of offense. It's the fact that this game breaks open. One, because Nolan McClain comes out of the game when he shouldn't.

0

38.544 - 56.228 Gio

And two, you've got these two guys that the Mets have been waiting and waiting and waiting to finally fill their potential, and they're trying to get them going every single year. And I love Mark Vientos, and I love his potential, and I love his star potential. When his bat gets going, it changes the lineup and all that stuff. But these guys don't have positions.

0

56.866 - 72.647 Gio

I mean, Brett Beatty out in right field doesn't work. I mean, we talked about Juan Soto being a butcher in right field last year. Compare... Like, Brett Beatty's a legit butcher in right field. I mean, he's out there with two meat cleavers. And then...

0

Chapter 2: What are the Mets' current defensive struggles?

72.627 - 93.959 Gio

Vientos at first, I mean, how many examples do you have in another miserable throw last night to home plate in a critical moment? It's just, I hate when a team that spends so much money on their roster has multiple guys playing out of position. That should not be happening.

0

94.439 - 114.582 Gio

And I understand when you're David Stearns and you spend a lot of money on a guy like Bo Bichette and you spend a lot of money on Juan Soto and Lador and the pitching staff. All right, I understand that you've got to have some guys on the roster that are on rookie contracts that are pre-arbitration and have an upside and all these things. But for God's sakes, when is enough enough?

0

114.562 - 140.625 Gio

when it comes to these guys out in the field. And by the way, you know, Brett Beatty, good kid, shows you a flash here or there. He's not a right fielder. What is he? Well, I mean, he should be a third baseman. Okay, but... He should be. But, I mean, he was okay at third base. He was okay. But now you've got a guy over there who was a bad defensive shortstop who's now playing third base.

0

141.086 - 158.393 Gio

Well, he did make a decent play last night. You've seen flashes from him over there, Bichette, where he gets the job done. But he's never going to be over there at third base unless Bo Bichette ends up getting hurt. That is very true. And this is where, and I think you hit on it perfectly yesterday, where they want to stress this run prevention, run prevention, run prevention.

0

158.553 - 178.418 Gio

And the idea with the Alonzo thing was run prevention, and it was an excuse. I mean, it clearly was an excuse. They didn't want him back for whatever reason. And I... They're not 2-10, so there's no reason to panic. They're not burying themselves in the first few weeks of the season. But I didn't like this team.

178.438 - 196.982 Gio

I know there are people gushing about what David Stearns did, and maybe they'll go on to win 95 games. And you know what? I really hope they do because it's enough. I don't like the makeup of the team. I don't like the way the team's put together. I don't like having all these guys out of position. And it's a different conversation. I'm not going there. But just in terms of this conversation...

196.962 - 218.061 Gio

and for whatever reason they have, fine. You got rid of a guy that played one position 160 games every season, and while not the best, he wasn't horrible at first base. And now we're rotating different guys every other day. There's no consistency there. The guy at third base is a shortstop, and a shortstop wasn't a good shortstop by Major League Baseball standards. You've got the outfield.

218.121 - 235.98 Gio

Soto, who never gets hurt, is now hurt. Polanco, who does get hurt, guess what? He's hurt. You bring him in. What is he exactly? He was supposed to be the first baseman. Now he's a DH. Well, now he's injured. You've got Benj. I love it. I love giving the kid an opportunity. No question about it. And I said yesterday, you've got to give him 30, 40 games before you make any decisions on him.

235.96 - 251.659 Gio

But he's kind of learning at the major league level. And let's strip it back down to last season for a second. We can blame it on whoever we want. The season went in the tank when the starting pitchers couldn't get out of the damn fourth inning, and they were taxing the bullpen, and the pitching sucked.

Chapter 3: How does the absence of Pete Alonso impact the Mets?

259.248 - 280.525 Gio

They haven't exactly rebuilt. I don't want to say that, but they have reshuffled this lineup. And oh, by the way, Francisco Lindor can't hit his way out of a paper bag. Worse than ever in April right now. Last night, you had an opportunity after you got the double from Taylor. He had a chance to drive in that run. comes up empty with a ground ball. Productive? Sure. Move him over to third.

0

281.666 - 306.771 Gio

You need a double. Get a hit. Offensively, the last few days have been a big zero. The starting pitching's been good. Luke Weaver faltered last night. I don't know. It just looks like a collection of pieces out there that doesn't fit, at least from where I'm sitting. When Juan Soto is out and the offense is struggling, the things that you need are great defense,

0

306.751 - 324.827 Gio

Great starting pitching, great pitching, and obviously guys like Francisco Lindor and Bo Bichette and the other guys in the lineup to step up in a big way. And you got really none of that outside of Nolan McClain. Now, I still don't think Weaver was that bad. I don't disagree with you. I'm with you there. I mean, that...

0

324.807 - 345.955 Gio

It was a hard-hit ball out to right field that Beatty misplayed, but if you've got a real right fielder out there, the guy makes that play. This was not his best performance, but it certainly wasn't his worst. It feels like misfits right now. I didn't hate the offseason. I kind of liked the offseason, but what's annoying...

0

Chapter 4: What are the implications of celebrities at the Masters?

345.935 - 362.678 Gio

When these guys have this entire year to talk about the analytics and this and this guy in this situation and that guy in this situation and I'm bringing in this nerd Kai Correa to be the bench coach and I finally got my fingers on this team and my fingerprints on this team.

0

362.658 - 385.051 Gio

And then you see situations where a guy goes down and it looks like they're completely caught off guard and are making the wrong decisions. You didn't have a discussion at all about what the outfield would look like if Juan Soto went down. Brett Beatty out in right field was really the best you could do. I guess. Like, okay, so Luis Robert Jr. gets hurt all the time. Yes, he does.

0

385.071 - 397.965 Gio

And he's been healthy. All right, he goes down. So then you got Tyrone Taylor would go out there. He was a great defender, but the guy can't hit for bleep, even though he did hit a ball last night. You know, he had a critical hit in the game. He plays 160 games. He's batting 210. Yeah.

0

Chapter 5: How did the Knicks manage to beat the Celtics?

398.525 - 422.096 Gio

Lucky. 210. So then, okay, that's a tremendous hole offensively there. It's like, you know, if you're really going to build a roster, build a roster. And there's just some major holes. It was annoying yesterday. I still think they could be a very good team. But I don't know. Beatty and Vientos, it's like... What are they? Yeah. I know.

0

422.257 - 443.38 Gio

And I've been a real proponent of Vientos' offense and his attitude and his swagger and all those things. But, I mean, he can't be at first base. It feels like, to me... they've got a lot of DHs. That's what it feels like to me. It feels like Vientos is best served as a DH or a third baseman. Beatty, a DH or a third baseman. Third base is clogged up by Bichette now. That's fine.

0

443.761 - 462.23 Gio

Polanco, let's be honest, is a DH when he comes back in when he's healthy. Francisco Alvarez is not a great catcher. He's a DH. You know what you need to me? You need the combination of You want Terence's defense, although Alvarez hasn't hit, but you get my point. You know he can and will. I think he will anyway. I hope so.

0

462.25 - 481.314 Gio

They have a bunch of DHs on this team, and for a team that sat there and sold us a bill of goods that we're going to be really good defensively, and look what we did up the middle, and Luis Robert. Well, what about everywhere else? I'm with you. Good shortstop, good second baseman. All good there. Simeon Wilde, not 20 years old anymore, still very good defensively.

0

481.354 - 506.318 Gio

And Robert, I know he dropped the ball the other night. As long as he's healthy and playing, good center fielder. All good. Great. How about first, third, left, and right? Yeah. It's a big part of it. Yeah, it's a huge part of it. And I think what has held back the Mets and Yankees from really being championship teams is a lot of these homegrown guys that they've given a lot of opportunities to

506.298 - 527.325 Gio

that haven't gotten it done. You know, obviously Aaron Judge has turned into the best player in baseball, but I could give you, for every Aaron Judge, I can give you five guys that they held on to way too long that have held them back. Whether it's Gary Sanchez, Glaber Torres, Luis Severino in the playoffs, Anthony Volpe. And then with the Mets, I mean, it's a similar situation.

527.385 - 550.918 Gio

I mean, you get a guy like Nolan McClain, who's absolutely tremendous, but Then you're looking at Beatty and Vientos, and we'll see what Benj is. And Francisco Alvarez, who was the number one prospect in baseball and has been a C-plus at best player since he's been up here. When you consider what you just said, not number one in the organization, number one prospect in baseball, with that...

550.898 - 572.937 Gio

lofty standard, almost like a D. Yeah, yeah. When you think about, I mean, the number one prospect in baseball back in the day was Ken Griffey Jr. coming up. Well, this guy Connor Griffin has got $200 million. And a week has played great at shortstop, and he's had a couple of clutch hits already. Again, he's 19. But, yeah. He does. I would agree. I don't know. They spend a lot of money.

573.098 - 589.433 Gio

I am not faulting them for that. I had no issues with McNeil and with Nimmo. I'll still come back to the Alonzo thing. I guess I understand why they did it, but I don't. It's just I don't like the way this team was put together. Maybe the Tucker thing, they really needed that to happen. They pivoted quickly.

Chapter 6: What led to the Yankees' one-hit loss against the A's?

895.524 - 923.682 Gio

Yeah, why not? Yeah, I'm hanging up on you now. Don't you dare besmirch my lady. But maybe something from My Chemical Romance. That'd get you going. Sure. Ladies and gentlemen, Jerry Recco. Die, die, die. No, not die, die, die. Come on now. Choke and die in a fire. No. Die. No. No. Yeah, that's not a bad idea. You know, big introduction. But here's the question. Is that allowed on YouTube?

0

925.625 - 944.608 Gio

That's right. Yeah, you can't. You're right. I don't know. Yeah, can't do that. You're right. I don't know that you can or you can't. If it's live, maybe you can. And you can't upload something. I don't know the rules of YouTube like that. But it's going to sit there. And if it sits there, then it can't use the music. Yeah. John's in Boston. What's going on, John?

0
0

945.723 - 968.605 Unknown

Good morning, Gio. Good morning, Jerry. What's up, John? What's happening, fellas? Yeah, walk-off song. Definitely do a leap. I'm with you there, Gio. She is just spectacular. My Lord. I saw her last year a couple times in Boston. What an entertainer. What a beautiful woman. Unbelievable. Oh, I love that. All right. So, as far as the Knicks, I'm a guy in Boston. I'm not a Celtics fan.

0

968.665 - 988.922 Unknown

I don't dislike the Knicks. I'm a LeBron guy, so we're an L.A. fan. That's where I'm going. But I think the Knicks are better than the Celtics. And the reason I think that is, if you would draft these two teams, the first two picks would be Tatum and Brown and Brown and Tatum. But you can make a case that six of the next nine will be Knicks. Knicks starting five and then Robinson off the bench.

989.483 - 1007.917 Unknown

The Celtics' best player after Tatum and Brown is White. And then it gets down to Pritchard. And the thing about Pritchard and Hauser and those guys, they've been fantastic. outstanding in the regular season. I don't know how they step it up in the postseason because now you're going against a team over a two-week period of time that you're really focused in on.

1007.937 - 1012.963 Unknown

So I do not have a lot of confidence in the Celtics beating the Knicks if they meet in the second round.

1012.983 - 1027.785 Gio

Yeah, you know what, those are good points, John, but I could also come back and say that you could argue that the Celtics have the two best players and the best coach in that series. That's true. Now, I'd love to say that Jalen Brunson and Carl Anthony Towns could be, you know, two and three in that conversation, but I can't.

1027.805 - 1043.894 Gio

I mean, they definitely have the best player and the better coach in Jason Tatum and Missoula over Mike Brown. You can make the case, though, that Jason Tatum off the injury, while still very good, is not where he was pre-injury. And, you know, in that case, Knicks could have, I like what he said there, they used everyone to fine, and the Knicks have six of the Knicks nine.

Chapter 7: How do the Mets and Yankees compare in their roster management?

1399.686 - 1420.703 Jerry Recco

And a bouncing ball right side to Rosario. Takes a step back onto the grass. Standing applaud, everybody. This young kid, Ryan Weathers, eight really good innings. And the fans appreciate what he's done. Seven strikeouts, no walks, giving up a run on seven hits. Nicely done. There you go. Dave Sims gives the line score for Ryan Weathers, our Yankees thriving player of the game.

Saving lives drip by drip. Visit thrivewellinfusion.com. Kind of an unfair L. For Ryan Weathers, yesterday as the Yankees got one hit and lost 1-0 to the A's.

0

1434.321 - 1435.062 Jerry Recco

Really, both starters?

0

1435.563 - 1435.824 Gio

Yes.

1435.944 - 1436.285 Jerry Recco

Unfair.

1436.305 - 1454.26 Gio

We'll get to Nolan McClain in a minute here. But for Weathers, the loss, despite the eight innings of work, as Jeffrey Springs gave up just a couple of walks and the one hit, a seventh inning Ben Rice single. That was it. A's win the game and the rubber game of the series won. 1-0 for the Yankee Bats, really struggling in the final two games of the series.

1454.28 - 1476.079 Gio

They had the two runs in the first inning of Game 2 on Wednesday, nothing yesterday. They'll try to warm it up down in Florida as they visit the Rays, Luis Gil and Steven Matz, the starters for tonight's series opener. Coverage at 6.30 again on WFAN AM, as well as the free Odyssey app. I think the Rays did anything for that guy that lost his pants. No. You don't think so? I don't. What do you do?

1476.119 - 1482.086 Gio

I mean, do you... It was like a public shaming. I don't know. You bring him back and... It's his own fault, though.
