Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
It's the Boomer and Geo podcast from WFAN. Hi, Boomer and Geo coming to you live. The Bill Ford Tough Studio on the fan and CBS Sports Network on this feel-good Friday. 888-808-1019 is the number to call. That's the Red Pocket Mobile fan line brought to you by your new Ultimate Cell Carrier. Red Pocket Mobile. So I was driving in.
We were just talking a little bit about, you know, the Liberty Games and Sabrina playing basketball. I'm driving in. I hear the end of Gordon Dahmer's show. He was doing the overnight. And he brings up this story about the leading scorer in women's college basketball. And she's got 26.2 points per game. And her name is Audi or Audi? A-U-D-I. Audi Crooks. Have you heard of her? I have not.
All right. So she leads the college basketball scoring, and she's... Where does she go to school? Iowa State? Is that what it is? Hold on. Let me get the... Hold on. I just looked this up with Al. Yes. Yeah. So she goes to Iowa State. So... She's 6'3", and she's big. All right?
Chapter 2: Who is Audi Crooks and why is she making headlines in college basketball?
She's a big girl. Okay. And she dominates in the paint. But she plays... zero defense and the clips there's like millions of views that's like barstool had put together a reel of her oh i know who this girl is yes and she doesn't even try to play defense right right i've so i've seen this she makes carl anthony towns look like dennis rodman It is unbelievable. So does anybody ask her about this?
They say, hey, why don't you play defense? No, but what Gordon Daymer was saying is that there are people, because people are laughing at this, they're coming to her defense and saying, oh, you're picking on her because she's a big girl or whatever else. No, it's not. Yeah, exactly. I mean, there has been so much. I mean, my entire... professional life has been criticizing athletes, right?
Whether they're not giving effort or whatever, right? So this should be no different. Yeah, we called Luka Doncic fat. Well, you did many, many times. Oh, it was. So yeah, exactly. But that's the point, right?
And I understand that she's not making as much money as Luka Doncic, but I mean, women's college basketball got thrust into mainstream with Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese and all of these things. And she's now the leading scorer in women's college basketball. People are paying attention, which is a good thing, right?
right but she just stands there so you've seen this she just i i did i did say i didn't realize it was her that you were talking about i didn't know her name but i guess i've of course i've seen it yes yeah i mean and and but people are thinking oh how bad can it be i mean it's bad i'm she it's amazing she even made it back down to the like the other end of the court she just stayed she's but i don't understand it's like why what does the coach say to her
I mean, I guess because she's so good offensively, they don't care. Like, maybe the coach is like, listen, we need you, your energy to be used on the offensive end and don't worry about the defensive end. I mean, so on Wednesday, they played Texas Tech. She had 33 points and 12 rebounds. Yeah, Audie Crooks was hooping 43 points in only 20 minutes.
Crooks set an Iowa State single game scoring record in only 20 minutes. So she's scoring baskets, but she's not playing any defense. Yeah, so maybe the coach is just like... Do what you got to do. Like, I don't even care. Well, can anybody stop her?
No.
That's the point on offense. Yeah, that's what I think. I think that's the strategy. The strategy is so they won by 14 against Texas Tech when she had 33 points, two assists, and 12 rebounds in that game. So, I mean, they're probably like, okay, you know, you dominate on the offensive end. Nobody can stop you and conserve your energy on the defensive end, and we're going to win every game.

Chapter 3: What are the defensive highlights of Audi Crooks' gameplay?
So she actually makes her layups as opposed to Angel Reese. Yeah. But Iowa State. But they're not even ranked, though. They're ninth in the Big 12, which doesn't mean seem to me like it's worth her not playing defense. Right. You're not winning that many games. Right. They did, but beating Texas Tech, I guess Texas Tech was 21st, so maybe they're going in the right direction.
But it is unbelievable watching these highlights. If you just put in, if you're someone that has X, you just put in Audie Crook's defense and watch that highlight reel, I mean, it is pure entertainment. It's one of the funniest things. Just standing there. Literally. I just don't understand how the coach even allows that.
Yeah, I mean, the only thing I can think of is what I just said in the sense of, like, she's only got so much energy because she's that big. And they're like, listen, dominate on the offensive end and just whatever. Just no fouls. Don't foul out that whole thing. Yeah, and just take a breather and just get in the way maybe. So how many players have ever been allowed to be like that?
Can you tell me of another player that you can think of? I mean, this bad? I mean, no. I mean, because it is bad. It is bad.
Chapter 4: How did Matthew Schaefer respond to the Islanders' success against the Rangers?
I mean, Shaq, at least. Shaq was a rim protector. I know. I mean, this is what I'm saying. And he got rebounds. I'm sure she gets rebounds, doesn't she?
Yeah.
Yeah, maybe more. Does she get defensive rebounds? I'd have to go through all her stats. Okay. I was about to say, Shaq's like the only person I can think of that was so dominant like that. But he would play defense. He didn't want to go and get Shaq's kitchen.
Well, that's the point.
Don't you want to be a full-on player? And don't you owe it to your, for some reason, if she's not playing defense, her teammates are okay with that, I guess? I don't know. I can't imagine how they would be. I really cannot imagine. I mean, basketball is a game in which you have to play offense and defense.
Now, some guys don't play or some gals don't play defense as well because they don't put the effort into the defensive end where they put the effort on the other side of the ball. All right, so in 25-26, she's averaging 26.6 points a game, 7.5 rebounds a game, 1.7 assists, and about a block a game as well. 67% field goal percentage. Anywhere around the basket, nobody can cover her. No.
I'm trying to see. Oh, here we go. Defensive rebounds. So she's got... 108 defensive rebounds and 49 offensive rebounds. Well, she's probably not missing a lot. No. Doesn't seem like it. She's shooting 70% from the floor. So when you measure Sabrina, she got long arms? Yeah, she's got, yeah, she's a lankier. She's got a little bit of a, not quite like a flying fox wingspan, but she's, yeah.
How does she, does she play good defense? She loves playing defense. That's what I'm talking about. That's where you hustle. Yeah, the effort. Effort's there on the defensive end. Nice. You know, they play man-to-man. You say, all right, who do you have? You know, you stick with that girl. She's fighting for screens. Well, she's not really fighting for screens, but it sounded good, didn't it?
Someday she'll be fighting for screens. Let's hope. That'd be great. You'll be the screen. Gary in Red Bank. What's going on, Gary?

Chapter 5: What lunch invitation did Dan in Carteret extend to Boomer?
Thanks, Matthew. Matthew Schaefer, a rookie. He was such a nice kid. Shocked he's awake. I can't believe my whole hockey lifetime. I go to the Garden in 1968. I fall in love with Rod Gilbert, the Rangers, the whole thing. My daughter brings home a freaking Islander to marry. And then on top of all of that, they end up. Taking this kid in, and this kid's a prodigy. Plus, he's a little wise-ass.
That's great. Which is great. I mean, he's wonderful. And like I said, you know, the hockey thing speaks for itself. We can all see the greatness. But what I see off the field, or off the ice, I should say, is the person who he really is. And that person, happy off the ice, productive on the ice. And I see him with those grandkids, and he gives them time and spends time with them.
That, for an 18-year-old, is really amazing. I know he's got some time, but there's going to be a high standard for a wife when he decides to. He's got a girlfriend. Oh, he does? Yeah, he's got a long-term girlfriend. Okay. And she plays hockey, too.
All right. I know what you're referencing, though. Taking care of him. Yeah, I mean, my goodness. Packing the clothes, the breakfast. Right.
Yeah. Better not get used to that, man. Yeah. I don't even think he knows how to, like, if he looks at a clock, I don't think he knows how to tell time. Come on. Hopefully not digitally. No, obviously, when it's on his phone, he can tell time. I'm talking about when he talks to a wall clock or a watch. Come on. I'm serious. He's got to be smarter than that. That has nothing to do.
It just has to do with what you're exposed to. All right. And what is this generation exposed to? Their phone. True.
All right, CeeLo, do you have a sponsor over there? I do. Chef IQ, sponsored by Chef IQ, precision cooking, effortless results. ChefIQ.com. I can play off that theme a little bit with the minute or two that I have. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because this was actually from Wednesday night here on the Fan Minutes after the Islanders won the game at UBS over the Rangers to improve to, at the time, 3-0 against the Blue Shirts this season. This felt like Lou Gower was speaking to you, to me, to Marash. The other Ranger fans around these parts and marking the territory.
I have a proclamation. I, Tommy Lugauer, proclaim that New York, the tri-state area, is now an Islander town.

Chapter 6: What humorous insights were shared about coaching teeball?
That's right. The Islanders run this city. The Islanders are the premier hockey team in New York in the tri-state area. Because the Rangers, I mean, they're gutless. We all know that. They're yesterday's news. We all know that. So you'd normally think touch the money spot, right?
This was, you know, after Wednesday night's game, I got to turn around and play less than 24 hours later. But that's how bad the Rangers are this season, that they couldn't even overcome that as they lost. I can't even argue with that. No, you can't. You really can't.
He knows what he's doing, though. He says this right before the game on Saturday. He knows he's going to get back to those guys over there. They're going to roll out the red carpet for him. There's going to be another Lou Gower jersey. Wants it pumped out there digitally. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. He knows what he's doing.
Yes, he does. Can we quickly... A lot of chicken fingers for the Saturday night. Devils winning overtime against Nashville 3-2. Can we play a quick game of how well do you know your hockey broadcaster? Sure. All right, so we got Matt Lockwood on the radio side, obviously, and you've got Don LaGreca on the TV side. So I'll give you the quote from the call, and you tell me which guy you think...
Have which call? All right. We've got long-distance drive. It hits some iron. That's part of the call, the final call. And then we've got to put a pitchfork in this one. So who do you think?
Put a pitchfork. It's Don LaGreca. Yeah.
Don LaGreca. I would agree. You guys are very confident in that. Okay. You are correct. So I'll give you LaGreca first.
Now the Devils possess for the first time. Great read there by Mercer.
He's sure with a roll. The blaster scores! The Cowboys!
