Let's Talk Which QBs The Jets Can Bring In

27 Jan 2026

Transcription

Chapter 1: What are the implications of trading for Tua Tagovailoa?

0.031 - 12.124 Gio

So we're talking about Malik Willis to the Browns and maybe the Dolphins and saying Tua's available. And it was that whole deal with Tua and Mike McDaniel at the end of the year. And then Mike McDaniel obviously gets let go and he's now with the Chargers. Does that mean Tua's going to stay?

0

12.184 - 25.018 Gio

If they sign Malik Willis, you would expect that Malik Willis is going to have other opportunities to start. So why would he go to Miami and sit behind Tua? But then again, Tua would have to be traded and they're not going to trade him to the Jets within the division, you wouldn't think.

0

25.218 - 29.363 Boomer Esiason

Yeah, and they'll be guys like Mike in Clifton Park. Mike, what's happening?

0

30.338 - 37.129 Unknown

Hey, so the Jets, why don't they trade for Geno Smith since the Raiders will draft a quarterback that will have nothing to do with Geno?

0

37.349 - 46.423 Boomer Esiason

Yeah, that's most likely going to be a guy that's either going to be cut or he's going to be traded. So that's enough. Again, he goes on the list.

46.859 - 61.196 Gio

Yeah, I mean, he had a miserable year last year, but obviously we've seen him play really well. I don't know if this last year was an indication that he's done or was just a down year for a bad team. But, I mean, he went from doing some really good things in Seattle to being an atrocity.

61.216 - 79.061 Boomer Esiason

I mean, when he was traded out of Seattle, people were like, you've got to be kidding me. Who are you going to replace him with? Well, they knew that they were going to replace him with Sam Darnold. They knew when they traded D.K. Metcalf to get him out of the building, get Geno out of the building, we have to start over with players that fit our scheme.

79.081 - 86.814 Boomer Esiason

That's what Mike McDonald, their head coach, and John Schneider, their GM, were doing out there. And it's kind of like where the Jets and Darren Moochie are right now.

88.116 - 94.787 Gio

Yeah, I mean, we were sitting and doing the same thing at the end of last year with the Jets, and then it ended up being Justin Fields.

Chapter 2: Could Geno Smith be a viable option for the Jets?

107.974 - 129.031 Boomer Esiason

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. And I'm sure that Aaron Glenn, I haven't talked to Aaron or anybody for that matter about this, but I'm sure Aaron coached against him when he was in Chicago. Oh, yeah, I'm sure. That guy's a pain in the ass, so let's go and let's go get him. I know how hard it is to play against him. I think he could be a pretty decent quarterback for us.

0

129.672 - 131.795 Boomer Esiason

Vinny, Staten Island. What's up, Vinny?

0

132.936 - 143.51 Unknown

What's going on, guys? Why don't they just bring in Kirk Cousins? He's Kirk Cousins. He'll give you stability. He'll win games. You draft Connell Tate in the first round.

0

Chapter 3: What factors influence the Jets' decision to acquire Kirk Cousins?

144.031 - 150.101 Unknown

Maybe you pick up Kyle Pitts in free agency. I mean, that makes the most sense to bring in Kirk Cousins.

0

150.121 - 169.1 Boomer Esiason

Well, here's the other thing, too. So Kevin Stefanski was the quarterback coach, I believe, for the Vikings when Kirk Cousins was there. They were together in Minnesota. I still think that Atlanta may end up keeping Kirk Cousins just simply for the same reason you would think that the Jets would want him. Because Michael Penix, I don't think he's going to be ready at the start of the season.

0

169.701 - 177.551 Boomer Esiason

And who knows if Matt Ryan, who's running it down there, does he believe in Michael Penix? I don't know.

0

178.032 - 191.79 Gio

Yeah, Kirk Cousins, if he were available, but I do think all the reasons you said, he ends up staying down there in Atlanta. But if he were available, that's a guy I could see Frank teaming up with and having success with. I could see those guys, similar personality, very related.

0

191.81 - 197.096 Boomer Esiason

It's like having... Phillip Rivers or Matt Ryan coming to your team like Frank has dealt with.

197.256 - 203.181 Gio

Yeah, I think that that would be a great fit, but Atlanta's got to have to make them available, and I'm not sure that's going to be the case.

203.382 - 220.017 Boomer Esiason

Because Kirk came back from an Achilles injury, and they started the season with Pennix, and, of course, Pennix goes down, unfortunately. And then Kirk, at the end of the year, actually played really well and got that team moving. Let's go to Conrad in Cherry Hill. What's going on, Conrad?

220.638 - 246.291 Unknown

Hey, good morning, fellas. Love the show as always. I am sitting here as a giant fan, happy about having Coach Harbaugh in the building. And we get to sit back at the Super Bowl and no longer have to worry about our players playing in the Super Bowl without us in there. So the Giants and the Jets have something in common for the Super Bowl, that they both are going to have players

246.659 - 271.336 Unknown

In that front that they got rid of that are playing in the Super Bowl, the Giants have Julius Love, who's a safety we still haven't replaced, and Leonard Williams that we traded that are both playing in the Super Bowl, prominent players that are doing phenomenal. And now the Jets, obviously Sam Donald and Leonard Williams who used to play for them. So only in New York this can happen.

Chapter 4: How do the Jets compare to the Giants in terms of QB strategy?

431.819 - 452.269 Gio

Don't feel bad for them. Really, don't. There's so many other franchises and teams and coaches and quarterbacks you can feel bad for. The Rams, not one of them. And it said here, the topic where it said, is this Seattle defense better than the Legion of Boom? I mean, that Legion of Boom was nasty in the Super Bowl against Peyton Manning. They were really, really good.

0

452.289 - 456.655 Gio

So we'll see what happens in this Super Bowl with this defense, but you can't compare them yet.

0

456.635 - 474.929 Boomer Esiason

You know, the amazing thing about these two teams in the Super Bowl, we talk about Sam Darnold a lot. We talk about Drake May a lot. We talk about the running game from both teams. We talk about these wide receivers. They're awesome. The Seattle Seahawks ended the season as the number one scoring defense in football, gave up the least amount of points on defense.

0

475.349 - 494.3 Boomer Esiason

The New England Patriots were fourth. And the New England Patriots, what they have done in three previous playoff games, I mean, this is legendary stuff. They've only given up one touchdown in each one of these games. So defense wins championships. Running games win championships. And that's one of the reasons why these two teams are where they are.

0

494.32 - 509.49 Boomer Esiason

Now, you could say the Patriots caught a break with their strength of schedule. I'll definitely admit that. But I'll also say that they have validated how good they are by winning these three games in the playoffs, even though the teams that they played were severely hamstrung when they played them.
