Chapter 1: What impressive skills did Fernando Mendoza showcase on Jimmy Fallon?
I don't know if you saw the interview with Fernando Mendoza and Jimmy Fallon.
Did you see this?
Yes, I did, and I saw him throwing the footballs at the albums that Jimmy Fallon was tossing up there, almost like skeet shooting it away.
Yes, back in the day we did that with David Letterman throwing footballs into garbage cans. Yeah. But this was a great, I mean, this kid just keeps the next step, the next step, the next step. Everything he does, he's just so likable, man. I mean, it's incredible. He's very, very bright. He's a damn good athlete, and he's a great reflection of really working hard to achieve your dreams, man.
Chapter 2: Why is the absence of Fernando Mendoza significant for the Jets?
Because he wasn't a highly recruited guy. No, of course not.
It just sucks that the Jets can't have him. You know, it just really does. I mean, it would have been one hell of an offseason thinking about John Harbaugh being the coach of the Giants and Fernando Mendoza having an opportunity to be that franchise quarterback for the Jets. But, you know, maybe they weren't ready for him.
You know, coaches and scouts will tell you this, and I think we talked about this. When you watch him play and you watch his teammates react to him, You know, everybody runs to pick him up. Yeah. When he came back with the Heisman Trophy, his teammates all just absolutely swarmed him. I mean, I think this entire team is in love with this kid, and they respect him to no end.
Probably some of the personal story about his mom also probably touches his teammates. But the way that he deflects a lot of the praise and the way that he gives praise not only to what he believes in his God, and he also believes in his teammates and his coaching staff. And he never forgets to always ā shine the light on those guys.
And that's something that coaches and scouts in the NFL are looking at. They want to see what kind of guy is he and do the players around him react to him positively. And that's from the inner city kids to the country kids, all the different personalities that a college football team makes up. So they got over, you know, they got 90 guys on the roster.

Chapter 3: What qualities make Fernando Mendoza a likable athlete?
And this guy looks like he's touched every single one of those guys.
Yeah, and that's what you want from your leader and your quarterback. He's a champion. I mean, he's got everything. He's got absolutely everything, and I know that he's a bit goofy at times and whatever, but I'd take goofy as opposed to some sort of guy you've got to worry about off the field or doesn't love football or any of that stuff.
I know one thing. This guy, once the Raiders get him, whoever the coach is, Clint Kubiak or anybody, he's going to be right in there. and he's going to be learning that offense day one. Now, he may be mature enough to start day one. Some guys like Jaden Daniels and C.J. Stroud, when they got there, they really understood what was going on, and they played really well their rookie year.
I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens with this young man.
All right, Red Pocket Mobile fan line is brought to you by your new Ultimate Cell Carrier Red Pocket Mobile, 888-808-1019. Let's go to Bob in Bergen County. What's going on, Bob?
Hey, how you doing, Gio? How you doing, Bowman? Hey, I'm just wondering when those guys from Islandwide do their live remote, will they have a commercial for, like, a Peter Schwartz dinner complete with ranch dressing? Highlight Peter Schwartz dinner. getting dunked with you guys from all the ranch dressing years ago.
Well, yeah, Peter Schwartz was in here the other day. Buffalo Wild Wings was number two on his list of chain sit-down restaurants. He does not like blue cheese or ranch dressing. He gets his normal mild buffalo, and he also gets honey barbecue and sometimes regular fries.
And I would say that this is a connoisseur. Of the finer things in life when it comes to fast food restaurants. Only the best. Only the best for him and his family. So when you listen to him and he gives you a list, pay attention.
Boneless buffalo wings, by the way.

Chapter 4: How do teammates react to Fernando Mendoza's leadership?
Not bone-in buffalo wings for Peter with the mild buffalo and the honey barbecue. Let's go to Hershen Valley Stream. What's going on, Hersh? Before my Salah and Dable point, I want to tell you guys about a traumatizing experience I had back as a kid growing up at the Valley Stream Pool in the early 80s. You guys were talking about guys and their hammers before.
When I was a little kid, my mom and dad would drop me off, maybe like 81, 82. I was probably 10 years old. We didn't have money for summer camp, so they dropped us off at the pool, and the only direction was don't be an idiot and make sure you shower before you come home.
And the showers were these big open areas, and there would always be two or three old men with their swinging hammers like it was two bocce balls stuffed into a long tube sock. And that was horrifying as a 10-year-old, 11-year-old kid. My friends and I, we didn't want to shower because we didn't want to see this.
this horror 43 years later it still haunts my dreams i wanted to make sure i talked about that today you know what i'm glad you got that off your chest because it reminds me i used to go to byron lake when i was a kid my dad would drop me off there too because we didn't have any money for camp either and there would always be a guy hanging without his hammer out too
Yeah, so this was multiple guys with their swinging hammers. But anyway, this is what I really wanted to talk about. Yeah, so for me, it was 80-81. I'm a little bit younger than you, but same idea. You know, what does it say, you guys, about the state of the disgustingness of New York football that... Robert Sala gets a nice job.
Gable is either getting a head coaching job in Buffalo or he's going to coach under Sala. Now, these were two guys that weren't just fired. They were fired in the middle of seasons to the highest level of suck you could achieve as a football coach. And yet nobody in the league really cares about what happened while these guys were in New York.
They just disregard it because the ineptitude of what's happened here. Do you find that crazy? Yeah, I mean, I do think there is an explanation, Hirsch, for each of these things, and they're both different.
Now, Brian Dable hasn't gotten the Bills job yet, but a reason why he is highly considered for it is because they need a guy who has worked with Josh Allen before, someone that he trusts, and there's only a handful of those guys that are out there, and Brian Dable is at the top. of that list.
The Rob Sala thing, what it says about the Jets and Rob Sala got a job so quickly is something that we were saying prior to him getting that job is that Rob Sala and Joe Douglas both are respected throughout the league. And the people in the league... look at Woody Johnson as the issue and not Joe Douglas and Rob Sala.

Chapter 5: What are the implications of Robert Saleh's coaching changes for the Jets?
So that was a point that I made in the coaching search for the next head coach of the New York Jets that probably Rob Sala and Joe Douglas are out there saying, man, this is a rough situation, and those guys are highly respected. So that's why I think Rob Sala got another job. Now, I don't think Rob Sala's a great head coach, but the league says that he got into the Jets,
turd blender, and it wasn't his fault.
Yeah, I don't know how much you knew Rob Sala other than maybe meeting him a little bit over the thing. I knew him a little bit better than you did. I'm telling you, he has an electric personality. The personality is electric.
And when you meet him and you sit there and you get to know him, like he tried to do with Joe Meningo and Terry when they went to go play golf, I mean, he is just, there's something effervescent about him. And it is, I can imagine, he just blew away Tennessee with his personality.
And, of course, the way his team played for him and the way that he got guys off the street to get the team to the divisional round in San Francisco with that defense that could all beat up all year long. So, yeah, he's very highly thought of. And I would not be surprised if Atlanta hires Joe Douglas. I would not be surprised. I'm assuming that... Matt Ryan knows Joe Douglas.
I know that Kevin Stefanski knows Joe Douglas. And I would think that that would be a great working relationship down there in Atlanta if Joe ends up getting that job. So, yeah, I think Gio's exactly right. It's not about the people that come through here. It's really about the people who stay here. Let's go to Mike in Stony Brook.
What's going on, Mike? What's up, guys? How are you? Good, man. Mike, what's happening? Before my Jets point, a dad joke, if I may? Sure. Sure.

Chapter 6: How are the Jets perceived in the context of New York football?
Did you hear about the wedding between the two TV antennas? No. No. Wedding was okay, but the reception was amazing. Yeah, that's a dad joke. That is a 100% dad joke. Corny. Totally corny. If the kids are looking up from their phones, at least it's a clean joke. Yes, that's for sure. So the Jets, we just never hit bottom, man. Now he's the one to interview.
Because I know the coach is probably gone at some point next year. And I'm telling you quarterbacks, I'm going to say, draft me, I'll take my NIL money and take a big insurance policy next year. It just gets worse and worse and worse. There is a way out, Mike. And I understand when you're a Jets fan and you look at the team and it feels hopeless.
But here, I will go back to just a few years ago where the Jets built a roster through the draft and free agency that was attractive enough for Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers to come and be the quarterback. So this is a guy who played in Green Bay, one of the all-time franchises. He wanted to go win a Super Bowl with the Jets because they built that roster up. Darren Muji has that opportunity.
They have some pillars in place with young players. If he knocks it out of the park with a couple of these draft classes the next two years, that's when you start getting people to want to come back here.
That's right. That's right. So to me, the Jets are going to be heavy in the draft. I would think defense. And I would also think some free agent signings on defense. I think the offense has got, obviously, they have to figure out the most important position. I wouldn't be surprised if they take a quarterback in the second round, one of these guys that tends to fall a little bit.

Chapter 7: What strategies can the Jets employ to rebuild their team?
I wouldn't be surprised, but they have to fix their defense. They also have to figure out who their stopgap quarterback is. Now, if they go on to have another bad year next year, I do not think that the owner will put up with it. I think that they'll end up moving on and it will be another coaching search because they're going to end up with a very high draft pick.
And they're going to have to make a decision. And if Arch Manning is a part of it, and we all believe that he will be, and he is the consensus number one pick if he is. I'm not sure if he will be at this point, but I'm just thinking ahead. And I'm trying to think, like, if Arch Manning is there and the Jets go on the tank run again.
Yeah.
then somebody else would be coaching him.
And the Jets in that situation can say, I understand that we have not been a premier franchise the last number of years, but what coach... Would you like? Peyton, Eli, Cooper, Archie, what coach do you want in here? Adam Gaze.
I would also say that, you know... Finding a defensive coordinator right now, I don't know what kind of contract they can offer the guy. They're going to offer him at least $2 million a year for sure. But what kind of term? Because is Aaron Glenn going to see his full term out? Or is he not?
There's a million financial questions you have to ask yourself in regards to where the Jets could be possibly this time next year.
If you are a defensive coordinator that is picking between two teams, the thing that I would say, if you're a defensive coordinator and you are highly sought after, you're going to want to go with a new coach who has a new contract as opposed to a coach who's sitting on potentially a stick of dynamite.
