Brain In The Game Sport Mind Coaching Podcast

013: Visualisation – The 5 most common mistakes made by athletes and coaches

23 Apr 2013

Description

In this episode we seek to understand why this most important coaching and performing tool isn’t utilised to its full potential and what are the most common mistakes made. We know in order to be a champion athlete we need to be consistent in our performance, to sustainably replicate those standout games, results and skills. We also understand that there are physical constraints to training at this intensity as highlighted recently by the drugs in sport investigations. So how do we train like a champion without inflicting physical, mental and emotional damage on the athlete? We use the brain and its inbuilt imagery maker – the imagination. This all sounds impressive, yet the vast majority of athletes and coaches in the majority of competitive sports either under utilise or not use this skill-set at all. And here is why – because it is misunderstood and misused. We look at the five most common mistakes made with visualisation, the consequences of this and how we can put it right. So if you are mentally, emotionally and physically fatigued from preparing, then you need to listen to this podcast. If you are not reaching your full potential as an athlete then you need to listen to this podcast. If you are into sport – listen to this podcast!
