And if you have been reading the news since January, you'll know that every government, it seems, around the world is seeking and searching out manufacturing jobs, particularly in the technology and electronics area. Well, Ireland has 150 extra of them this morning. We have an announcement from the US electronics company Sanmina, listed on the Nasdaq, a Fortune 500 company, that they're going to be expanding their facility in Firmoy, North Cork, by 150%. new roles as they expand their assembly operations there. And I'm joined by Sean Moran, who is the Senior Vice President with the company.

What types of jobs will Sanmina be creating in Firmoy?
It's great to have you along. As I said in that introduction, everyone is trying to get manufacturing jobs at the moment. We know they're in the news for a whole variety of reasons, but you're expanding. You've been there since the late 1980s, and now we see a massive expansion being announced this morning. Just tell us why you need these jobs and what they'll be doing.
Well, I'm delighted that we're officially opening our expanded facilities today. And this expansion underscores our long-term commitment to Fremoy and to Ireland as a centre of excellence for medical technology. As you mentioned, we've been in Fremoy for over 36 years and we've been driven by exceptional talent and a strong culture of innovation and quality. And we're working in the advanced medical technology area and we're supporting our customers in growing their business and supporting more patients across, not just across Europe, but across the world.
How does Sanmina's expansion align with their long-term goals?
Now, Sean, what kind of jobs are they and where do you expect to recruit? Is it locally, across Ireland, internationally? Just give us an idea of the kind of people who will fill these jobs.
Well, our priority will be to hire locally and recruit locally where possible. And we're hiring as you mentioned, for up to 150 roles across engineering, quality assurance, manufacturing and operations. And these are high skilled, future focused jobs that will offer strong career growth. Now, just to give us an idea, because this is quite a company with a lot of product lines. You do printed circuit boards, you do wearables to do with health and fitness and all that end of things.
What challenges has Sanmina faced in the medical device industry?
So you've quite a diverse product range. Can you give us an idea what this announcement, what part of the business it'll be serving?
Well, this will be servicing our medical-focused customers. This facility in Fremoy is our largest facility in Europe. And what I can say is that we work with many of the leading medtech innovators and the products manufactured here will support patients globally, including those in chronic care and remote monitoring.
Now, medical devices is a pretty solid industry. Not necessarily always fast growth, but it's reliable and it has a lot of very captive markets that you've had for a long time. Have you been hit down there by, you know, just global problems, the tariffs and all that? Have they kind of caused you strategic challenges in the last few months or is your business slightly different than that?
Well, I think in our business we have, you know, there's a long time to develop these businesses and these relationships with our customers.
How does Sanmina plan to recruit for the new positions?
And, you know, this space that we're operating in is a growing area. And these solutions that support chronic condition management and remote patient care, we see those as continuing to grow. And we see our customers and people accessing these growing in the future.
Now, Sean, in terms of getting this type of investment, you've got IDA backing IC and the government will be, Micheál Martin Taoiseach will be opening the facility this morning. Do you have to compete internally within the company to get these investments or was Ireland always at the forefront?
