What health issues are causing my snoring and how am I trying to fix them?
Hello and uh it's morning. where I am. I don't know what time it is where you are because uh podcasts are just MP3 files on the internet that you Uh your client it looks like it's like a fancy app, but it's just, you know, it's just an MP3 file sitting on a server. Uh Hoping that, you know. The next jump will be the The jump home. Um I this is your favorite potty mouthed but not yet fascist podcast hosted by a white man breaking change. Uh Sometimes I say fuck. Sometimes I say things that HR would not have appreciated me saying, uh but at the same time I believe in civil liberties. And rights and the pursuit of Equal justice under the law. Doing what I can. Uh this is version fifty-five of the show, uh the title.
I'm a good guy, Gene. I uh Uh yeah. I'm struggling this morning. Because uh it's just a little bit off. Uh y you know the um Whenever I get in front of the podcast, Mike, I think of that scene from Anchorman where where Will Smith Will Smith, Will Farrell is just uh sorry, uh when you spend enough time in Asia, um uh Americans tend to all look same. So I I got 'em confused. That's a reasonable Point of confusion. Uh I just think about him in the in the in the makeup chair saying unique New York to try to like Ennunciate, get ready for it. Camera. Uh And I'm I'm doing that this morning. But not not because I care about how I sound or how torn up my voice and throat will be after I'm done. With this uh this here.
Audio program. But I I I liken it to doing my mouth cagles. Which Uh Probably sounds grosser to you. Out of context. So I we have been on a journey, you and I. Trying to figure out why does Justin snore? Or why can't Justin breathe? Or why is Justin's heart rate like in the low thirties all the time? And it's been uh a multi year health journey. Uh I should probably just move this whole thing under the wellness category, come to think of it. Uh it's languishing in technology. And Well anyway, uh as part of my Um you know, journal here with you of all the interactions I had with the traditional medical system. And my zero interactions I had with naturopathy and and all of the the homeopathy and the woo out there.
Uh it kinda landed on a few things, right? You know, I I had um cut out a lot of meat in the back of my head, which which opened up a lot of airflow, and that was helpful. And then that created a high pressure system, is is my guess, such that uh I didn't I don't think I had apnea before, but I deaf have it now. So My tongue is just like glued to the back of my throat while I sleep, causing even worse snoring than I had before. Um, the benefit being though, of course, that when I do like, you know, choke some air through it it goes through. Nicer, I I guess. But anyway, I've been sleeping like shit. Becky's been sleeping like shit because she's sleeping next to me and I'm sleeping like shit. Not to mention I'm, you know.
I don't know what it's like to be a woman who sleeps with a man who snores. Um I'm sorry, a snoring person, but I I it doesn't sound fun. Uh so so I've been working on trying to come up with some, you know things I can do here in Japan without a doctor's appointment to like at least stop snoring. And there's a device that I knew that I I knew I probably needed or would want if I got diagnosed with a apnea properly, called a MAD, an M A D. It's a uh an oral appliance, a a m uh oh bot see, I don't have that word man mandibular advancement device. Um sounds like if your if your kid is in military school, uh like a m a guffin in a movie that you'd use to to cheat on your term papers. Uh the mandibular advancement device moves your mandible forward.
And it creates it basically like yanks up that whole bottom part of your mouth and jaw so that your tongue can't suppress your airway. Uh just physically cannot. And of course these are you gotta pay out of pocket, you gotta pay up one two thousand dollars. I'm not it takes like three weeks with with all the lab work and the x rays and whatnot. Uh so I'm I'm not gonna like get one of those in Japan, I thought, until Claude mentioned that they have boil and bite models, similar to how you would get like a cheap mouth guard if you were playing like a kid's sports or something.
