It's episode 69, and my guest is Adam Schein, host of Schein on Sports weekday mornings on Sirius Mad Dog Radio and Schein Time weekday afternoons on YouTube for the New York Post. Long before his 20-plus years talking sports, Shine debated sports with his brother, grew up playing baseball, and realized as a kid that he had a distinct voice. Shine went to Syracuse, the place for broadcasters, but mainly play-by-play broadcasters.
He made it a point to have a talk show. You'll hear how that led to opportunities at WFAN, the legendary station in New York, and his first solo hosting gig, which he'll never forget, coming off the Big East Tournament. Shine's voice is unlike anyone else's. You'll hear how that came to be and how it's impacted his career and the advice he got from a teacher about sticking to that voice and never changing it. Even though, as I told you beforehand, you're like the 30th Syracuse grad on the show, I obviously appreciate the purple.
Listen, I knew the podcast I was coming on. I understand it. So I figured I had to show the proper respect and still bleed orange. Of course. I still have two younger kids, so there's hope for them. But look, Northwestern is special. Medill is special. I can't wait for Jolie to be there in the falls, her dream school. And man, it's been pretty awesome ever since she got in and You know, I've joked with people, and people have joked with me, I haven't taken this shirt off, right? Like, it went noted, you know, we were at the place we swim over the weekend, and, you know, I was wearing my Syracuse shirt. And it was like, oh, I'm wearing a Syracuse. I got my Syracuse basketball shirt. Even Jerry McNamara, when we had him on Sean on Sports, was busting my chops because he listens to the show.
So we're excited about it. We can't wait. I think we're going to get a lot of people excited. My son's Little League game. There was a woman, really nice mom, who just became friendly with the kids being on the same team. And she joked to my wife in front of me, I've never seen Adam in another shirt than his Northwestern shirt. So maybe I need to get some others, Kevin, into the mix as well. But for you, Northwestern.
I appreciate it. I've got a drawer of Northwestern shirts, as you can imagine, that I rotate through. And we're going to let's get into your origin story. And I gave you a heads up. This was coming. I got July 8th, 1995 here in the journal news. I'll read this. It's very short. At Zucker Park Thursday night, Adam Schein had two hits and four RBI as the New City Yankees topped the Haverstraw Reds 16-1.
