British Culture: Albion Never Dies

'Q' is for... 'Queen'

28 Feb 2022

Description

Don't be shy, send me a message! This is the 17th episode in 'The Alphabet of Britishness'. I ask, what could possibly be more British than the Queen? Many, many people requested this topic. Rather than doing a simple biography of well known monarchs such as Queen Elizabeth  II or Queen Victoria, I've taken a look at three lessor known, but equally interesting, female rulers: Queen Boadicea, Empress Matilda, and Lady Jane Grey. I also can't resist touching on Eleanor of Aquitaine again.  Women have been no cyphers in British history. I also talk about Q, as in James Bond's Q. I mainly delve into the Q-Ships that are (in my view) the most likely origin of his name.
