Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Hey, I'm Dr. Maya Shankar, a cognitive scientist and host of the podcast, A Slight Change of Plans, a show about who we are and who we become when life makes other plans.
I wish that I hadn't resisted for so long the need to change.
We have to be willing to live with a kind of uncertainty that none of us likes. You can have opinions. You can have opinions. like a strong stance. And then there's your body having its own program.

Your 20s can be so exciting, but they can also be really overwhelming, confusing, and honestly, just kind of lonely. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the psychology of your 20s is breaking down the science behind the biggest roadblocks we face.
I was six years into my career, the 80-hour weeks and just the first one in, the last one out, and I ended up burning out.
There was a large chunk of my 20s that I was just so wanting to be out of that phase, out of my skin, and I just really regret not living in the present more. You don't need to have everything figured out right now. You just need to understand yourself a little bit better. Listen to The Psychology of Your 20s on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
If you're watching the latest season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know there's a lot to break down.
Portia accusing Kelly of sleeping with a married man. They holding K. Michelle back from fighting Drew. Pinky has financial issues.

Chapter 2: What sparked the couple's first argument on date number three?
I mean, that's just hard. Like, you do owe him a big apology. A sincere one. Yes. Yeah, I know that you're right. I just, I'm hoping that you guys can help me figure out how to do this. Like, how do I undo this? How do I go about apologizing to them? While still expressing... my boundaries for the future. I don't think you need to anymore. I think he gets your boundaries. Yeah. Yeah.
Those are very clear. A lot of behavior changes going forward. But in the meantime, we're all going to go to the break room. We're going to grab some monster energy drinks and pound them to think of the best advice we could give you before we come back and let you call your guy, Marco, guy you're talking to casually and see if we can get him to give you one more chance. Yes.
I'm going to go through Brooke's phone while you guys do that. Okay.
That's a good call. We should all look at Brooke's phone. It'd be so funny if you found something fun.
And then we'll let you do it with your Awkward Tuesday phone call right after this. Hold on. It's awkward.
It's Tuesday.
It's Awkward Tuesday phone call. Trust is a fickle beast.
Oh, yes, it is.
Once you lose it, it's almost impossible to get it back.

Chapter 3: How did Isabella feel about her role in the argument?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Turns out he was looking at his own phone and her insecurities from a previous relationship kind of took over. Yeah. Worst part, though, was she wouldn't drop it the entire ride home. And they parted ways on a really weird note, have not spoken since. So she's coming to us seeking advice on how to properly apologize and hopefully smooth things over. Yeah. Should be super easy.
Brooke, what's your advice for Isabella? Well, this might come off as a little manipulative.
I like it. I already like it. What is it?
You don't like it? But what you need to do is you need to say you're sorry, say you're so embarrassed, start crying. Oh, start crying. Yeah. Yeah. And just tell him that you're just not used to being around such an amazing guy like he is and that you'll get used to it and you're excited about it. OK, what do you think about that, Isabella? Can you cry on command?
You know, I could try, but I like that idea of buttering him up. Yeah. Yes. Taking a really positive angle. Yes. Men have a very difficult time when a woman starts crying, being able to do anything except agree with her. Yeah. I'm so sorry. What do I do here? Yeah. All right. So that's your advice. You can use as much or as little of it as you want, Isabella. It's really up to you.
Yeah.
Okay. Okay. Well, don't start crying yet. We haven't even gotten Marco on the phone. I don't think it's going to be fake. I think it's going to come out naturally. Oh, boy. I hope not. I hope there's no tears. I know, because then I'm going to be uncomfortable.

Chapter 4: What was the misunderstanding during the gas station incident?
Absolutely. Flashing for a good cause now.
Isabelle, I guess that's the lesson that we learned. Make sure you grab a bag of Funyuns on your way out next time before you show the goods. Emphasis on the fun. Okay, thanks, guys. I'll try to remember that. But, Marco, please, can we just hang out? I will say she's got a good attitude about all of this. We've gone pretty hard on her, and she's still laughing. At least you know why she did it.
It wasn't for, like, her own joy. Yeah. It sounds like it maybe was a little bit, Jeff. It wasn't void of joy.
That's true. The first time she's done it.
But she just didn't want to bug you and force you to pay. That's somebody that I would want in my corner if I was you. So I would rethink hanging out with Isabella again.
I mean, if you ever run out of gas in a remote area, you don't need your Apple pay.
Marco, what do you think? I don't know. This is all just a little too crazy for me. I'm a pretty simple guy. Oh, yeah. Maybe we call the gas station attendant for a second date update. Well, I mean, he's not really my type anyway. I don't know what he expects. I'm a lady, so. Oh, yes. No one will ever doubt that. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
And the only other time I've ever heard of flashing people to get free stuff was at Mardi Gras. I didn't know it was an option at 7-Eleven. It should have signs up that say, we accept cash, card, and C-cups. Oh, yeah. Or spring break in the early 2000s in Mexico. Oh, yeah. Well, what else can we get for this? I want to try to board a plane doing this. I don't think it works as good for you. What?
You show up at the airport and whip it out? Yeah. Women don't fall for it the same way. Yeah. Yeah. You're desensitized or something.
