1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 was big to me.
I'm Sam Jay. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year. It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to Look Back At It on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. My mother-in-law spent years sabotaging our relationship until karma made her pay for it. All right, Sophia, tell me about how we started this story.
She moved in for two weeks, lasted five days, left a mess, and then pressed her ear against their bedroom door and burst in screaming. When kicked out to a hotel, she called her son-in-law's workplace pretending his partner had been rushed to the hospital by ambulance. faked a medical emergency? And spoiler, that was just the beginning.

Chapter 3: What are the experiences shared by the guest regarding their career?
I'm talking to all the families out there, parents with kids. Have you planned your summer vacations yet? It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Jeff, if you have kids, everything was planned in January. All summer camps, if you're not on by the time they open, then they're sold out and you have no childcare for the rest of the year. Yeah, but that's camp.
I'm talking about travel, summer vacation travel. And if you haven't yet, this might help because today a list came out of the most expensive and the least expensive travel destinations in America. Maybe we should just cover the least expensive. Yeah, it's getting real pricey. Or tell us the most so we can avoid them. Let's go with the most.
Number five, most expensive, not really a surprise, Miami. Yeah, totally. And realistically, if you're taking your children to travel to Miami, there's something a little bit sus about you and your family. Why don't you go down to Orlando like most families do? There you go. Number four, most expensive, staying in Florida, Key West. Oh, I can see that. Oh, yes.
Go check out the Ernest Hemingway House. Lots of fun stuff happened in there. Kids love Hemingway. Yeah. And number three, most expensive place to travel in America, Santa Barbara, California. Oh, yeah. I can see that. Does Oprah have a house in Santa Barbara? Number two, New York City. Duh. Yeah, Big Apple. Number one most expensive tourist destination in America, Anchorage, Alaska. Wow.
Why?
Pop-Tarts are $12. Because you have to import literally everything, man. Oh, yeah. Now it makes sense. And summer's the only time anyone wants to go. Yeah. Nobody's visiting in the winter. It is gorgeous. As for the least expensive place to travel in the U.S., sorry, kids, it's Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The big G. Civil War reenactment.
You're going to have to learn about history on your summer vacation, and Dad is going to make sure the Confederacy wins this time. Good luck. Hopefully that helps a few people out when it comes to planning summer getaways. Now I'm going to throw it over to my summer vacay partner who never stops putting lotion on my back. Our digital producer, Jake. You're so burnt all the time. Thank you.
Well, on this day back in 2018, television history was made. The Simpsons aired its 636th episode, officially becoming the longest running scripted TV show of all time.
Wow. So cool.

Chapter 4: How do the hosts engage with their audience about summer vacation planning?
There's a lot of typing when it comes to lawyers. Goosebumps. I kind of like law and order. Let's do that because they do lots of paperwork. Brooke says law and order. Start in 2003. It's still on today. It's like the highest rated show of all time. I don't understand it. Naval Criminal Investigative Services, NCIS. NCIS. So many spinoffs of NCIS as well. We're 0 for 2 so far.
Jose, we're over to you now. 7 and 12 are off the board. Let's go 5. Oh, this animated program has been on and off since 1999. And your hint is that it's a show that was built entirely on chaos, cutaways, and zero consequences. What is it? Oh, I like that. There's a lot of chaos in Arthur. Oh, yeah. He's a chaotic little guy. He doesn't solve a math problem.
Chapter 5: What are the most and least expensive travel destinations in America?
Yeah.
Lost a fist clencher. I think I'm going to lock in Family Guy instead of Arthur. Oh, I'm going to lock it in. And you were right.
It is Family Guy.
We're talking shows that have more than 10 seasons because on this day in 2018, The Simpsons became the longest running scripted television show of all time. Jose's gotten his right. The lady's not so lucky. But Jeffrey, let's see what you can do. Can I have a number, please? Eight.
This crime drama ran from 2005 to 2020 and follows a team that could look at someone for five seconds and confidently say, he had a rough childhood. What is this crime drama?
I mean, what criminal didn't have a rough childhood?
Yeah. Well, if you're like profiling people in a crime, that'd be like Criminal Minds-ish.
Ew, okay.
We're going somewhere. Where are we going? Criminal Minds-ish? Ish? How about yes? Criminal minds. That was incredible, Jeff. Very good. He got to the ish and it gave him the good stuff. Which takes us to a tiebreaker between the boys. Jose, we're going to you. Your question is simple. The TV show Friends did it last under 10 seasons, exactly at 10, or 10 plus seasons.
