S10 E42 Recognizing Your Script |IBGR | Donna Kunde & Londina Cruz “If we own the story then we can write the ending.” – Brene Brown Each of us has a script that has been devised in childhood as a response to what others told you about what your abilities and options were. Transactional analysis tells us that we can actually have a “script” and ”counterscript. Liberation comes when we recognize our scripts and can see if they breed positive results. Our scripts are heavily determined by outside influences. If we are named after a famous general or the toys we were given were guns and toy soldiers, we will most likely identify with the Warrior. If they bought us dolls and told us what a great mommy we would make, we are likely to identify with the Caregiver. The script is often a compensation for some early wounding. We try to come up with a plot for our lives that will keep us safer and less vulnerable to pain. This wounding is frequently the negative or limiting messages we get about ourselves or our possibilities. These scripts reflect an underlying fear that unless we act according to the script, we will not survive. When the script is read as a myth or metaphor, the way to healing that wound is also embedded in the script. The psychological function of the script is to heal us of our primary wounding so we can go on to express our true story. When we recognize that scripts have an Archetype embedded in them, we can understand that most of us are better off if we don’t fight our scripts. It is better to simply recognize them and take them to a higher level. When writing your script include the following: Who have you been scripted to be? How does this script limit your life? What might be the gift or lesson in your script? Make sure you leave some thoughts in the comment section below. We are interested in continuing the conversation.
