this is the busted open podcast i am going to say this and this is like my little tease before we went to break is that they did something different last night you know what they did last night they followed up a pay-per-view with a home run and i gotta tell you that might have been the best follow-up dynamite that AEW has ever done after a pay-per-view because usually we come on the air and they're like god the pay-per-view was awesome but how are they gonna follow it up and they followed it up I mean it wasn't just solid I thought last night's show was great Nick I really did
You know what? We do. We give them a hard time because they have such insanely long and delivering and show stealing and incredible pay-per-views. And then on Wednesday we go, all right, here we go. Yeah. And you're right. They killed it yesterday. I'm very curious to see. I like when we're on the same page, you and I, that we both said, hey, the show was frigging great. What a great follow-up. I'm not sure where they're going. Are they going to a triple threat for the world title?
What unique elements did AEW incorporate after the pay-per-view?
Are they going for one for one? Are we going to get Omega? Are we going to get Max? somebody's fighting osprey or eating something else and i love not knowing and having the story continue in several different aspects of the show uh they absolutely delivered yesterday you're right we give them a hard time when they don't deliver and follow up on an awesome pay-per-view with a dynamite and when they kill it we gotta say they killed it i i enjoyed yesterday so many different there's a couple matches that were awesome couple moments. I like how they started the show with all the different people near the main event scene bumping into each other. I really enjoy that shot and how that worked out and not knowing where they're going right now exactly.
Yeah, and listen, they could have took a knee last night. I mean, we all know this is like one of the biggest vacation weeks of the year. It's a holiday week. A lot of people are taking vacation. A lot of people are off. The World Cup is going on right now. So there's a lot of competition. And AEW said, you know what? Let's swing for a knockout. Let's swing for the fences and hit a home run. And I thought that they did. And I've been on this show extremely prepared. critical about the death rider situation. And you know what? The death riders is still, I, again, I would have gone in a different direction with Osprey.
How did AEW successfully follow up on their pay-per-view event?
I've seen it. I've said it a million times. I'm not going down that road again, but now I'm very interested because you got the match with Mark Briscoe and MJF last night. Great match to open up. It was great. But then you have Max calling out Kenny Omega, uh, And, hey, you want a title shot? You'll get it. But you got to do the Cody Clause. You got to do the Hangman Clause. Which, if you lose, you never get the challenge for this AEW World Championship again. And then you couple that with... Will Ospreay said weeks ago that he has no interest in being part of the Death Riders. But then John Moxley hands him that patch, and you see the way that he's looking at that patch. And then he has words with Kenny Omega.
They did a really good job setting up a story that's going to take you to All In at the end of August.
absolutely great stuff because in between Moxley being crazy, the story has been, I'll never join you guys, but I do want to make sure I can wrestle for the next 20 years and not put myself, take myself out. And you've watched this relationship go back and forth and it's just a little bit, a little bit, it's almost like an abused animal and you're trying to feed it and pet it a little bit and then finally they accept you and you bring them in And now you're like, man, is this really going to go down? He feels an emotional connection, which is really hard to do in pro wrestling when you're doing a TV show to have that transfer, not just to the crowd, through the screen to other people and go, this isn't phony, this is dumb, whatever, hokey.
